Rossett News Update – 26 October 2018
American Exchange 2018
Rossett Students have enjoyed a wonderful first week in Maine, USA. They have been involved in a variety of educational and leisure activities and have received a warm welcome from all at Falmouth Middle School. They were also lucky enough to meet Terry Allen who was Principal at Falmouth 32 years ago, and was responsible for introducing the exchange!
Rag Week
The school has been buzzing with activity this week as the Sixth Form have been running their annual ‘Rag Week’. A variety of fundraising activities have been taking place including a ‘Mr & Mrs’ quiz and culminating today with ‘Rossett’s Got Talent’. Congratulations to Harry Leah (Y7) and Anthony Barker who won a huge chocolate cake in the ‘Guess the Weight of The Cake’ competition and Ruby Smith (Y7) for guessing ‘How Many Sweets in The Jar’. The fabulous winner of ‘Rossett’s Got Talent’ was Mukesh Kadali for completing the Rubik’s Cube blindfolded! Over £500 has been raised for charity – well done to all who organised and took part.
Rossett Park Run
Students have been taking part in our annual ‘Rossett Park Run’ this week in their PE lessons. All students were involved in the event which this year took place in lovely weather conditions. Students will be selected to represent Rossett School in the Harrogate and Craven Cross-Country Trials as a result of their performance in this event. The winners from each year group were:

Sports Studies Department Newsletter
Rossett School Sports’ Council members have been working hard on their very own newsletter which will be sent to parents each half term. The newsletter will keep you up-to-date with all of the sporting activities at Rossett School and we hope you find this inaugural edition informative. Link to newsletter here.
Parent Governor Election
As part of our continual review of the skill-set in our Governing Body we are always looking to hear from parents who may have a background in education, governance, law or similar who would like to contribute to the future development of the school.
Anyone who would like to express a general interest in governance is more than welcome to contact the Headteacher’s PA, Mrs D Duncan, at the school for further information: dduncan@rossettschool.co.uk.
We are looking specifically for at least two parents who would be prepared to put their names forward in our latest recruitment drive for parent governors.
Nomination forms are available from the link Parent Governor Information 2018 and should be returned by Wednesday 14 November. The elections will take place prior to the Full Governing Body meeting on Tuesday 4 December.
Harrogate late bus
The Harrogate late bus currently runs on a Wednesday and Thursday. Following a period of monitoring student usage, it has been identified that there is no longer a need for this service as most students are choosing to walk, be picked up by parents or use public transport. This service will no longer run after half term. The Leeds late buses are not affected and run every day at 4.30pm.
Congratulations to …
- The Year 7 boys’ football team who had their first win of the season beating Harrogate Grammar School 3-0.
- The Year 9a boys’ football team who carried on their unbeaten run by winning against King James’s School 3-0.
- The U15 girls’ football team scored an impressive 3-0 victory against St John Fisher School.
- The Year 10 boys’ football team who had a great 4-0 win against Abbey Grange in the ESFA National Cup and progress to the next round.
