Rossett News Update - 9 December 2022
Winter Warmer Concert
Last night we were delighted to welcome parents and carers to our annual Winter Warmer music concert. Seventy talented musicians were involved in last night's performances who had all committed time to rehearsals over recent weeks.
Students from Years 7 to 13 were involved in the evening, and the array of talent on display was outstanding - from our extracurricular ensembles to some wonderful solo performances. Festive refreshments were served and students and staff wore festive jumpers and headgear. We were also delighted with the addition of some short drama pieces this year. Thank you to everyone who took part.

Christmas Jumper Day 2022
We saw some fantastic Christmas jumpers yesterday and received donations, via Scopay, for Save the Children. This fund-raising will help children in the UK and around the world in these particularly challenging times. Thank you to everyone who joined in and donated.
Yorkshire to Ukraine: Update
We have been overwhelmed by the support for our First Aid Club's 'Yorkshire to Ukraine' appeal which closed last week. Ms Rogers (First Aid and Health Manager) was joined by Mrs Wignall and Mrs White to organise the fantastic amount of clothes, bedding, sleeping bags, food and other essentials ready for shipment to Ukraine.
The donated items will shortly be on their way to refugee camps across Ukraine to help people in need. Thank you to everyone who donated and our First Aid Club for their continued support of the people of Ukraine.
News from the LRC
Please encourage your child to visit the Learning Resource Centre before the end of term so that they start the festive holidays with some exciting and inspiring reading material to enjoy. After consulting with student librarians and other students we have ordered some new books which will be available for the start of the new term. A number of students have asked for a greater selection of crime stories so various titles by Agatha Christie and some brilliant Maigret books by Georges Simenon will be available from January. Happy sleuthing everyone!
The Christmas holiday is an ideal time to encourage enthusiasm for reading for pleasure. The third and final series of His Dark Materials begins next week on BBC 1. There is no better time to read or re-read the award winning and best selling books by Phillip Pullman. Many of our most loved Christmas films are based on books and this can be a great way in to helping students discover books like A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens or The Railway Children by Edith Nesbit.
Where possible and affordable please think about buying books or book vouchers as Christmas presents for the children in your family. This can really help develop a reading for pleasure habit that will benefit your child in so many different ways.
Have a 'bookish' weekend everyone.
Christmas Lunch Meal Deal
On Tuesday 13th and Wednesday 14th December our talented Executive Chef and his team will be presenting our Christmas menu. Christmas lunch will be served as always by our Senior Leadership Team and the catering staff (hats and tinsel optional). The Christmas meal deal (main and pudding) is £4, just a main course is £3.50 and just pudding is £1. The Free School Meals allowance will be increased for these day in reflection of this.

Reminder: Early finish on the last day of the Christmas term
We would like to remind you that, as always, Rossett School will finish the Christmas term early - this year on Friday 16 December at 2.10pm. There will be a change to the scheduled lessons on this day and all school buses will arrive at school and drop off one hour earlier.
Exam Invigilators required for 2023

Exams commence at 9.30am and 1.15pm and invigilators are expected to attend 15 minutes prior to the start of each exam. Invigilators may occasionally be asked to report earlier to help with the setting up of the larger exams. Training will be provided.
If you think you may be interested in this type of role please call 01423 564444 and ask to speak to Gemma Kay (Exams Officer) or email Gkay@rossettschool.co.uk.
