Christmas jumper day 2023Christmas Jumper Day

We are, once again, joining Save the Children in their fundraising by taking part in their Christmas jumper campaign.

To support this worthwhile campaign students and staff are invited to wear a Christmas jumper,  or a 'normal' jumper with Christmas colours (red, green, gold) on Friday 15th December.  This is a great way to spread some festive cheer whilst raising money for a good cause.

However we need to remind students that jumpers should be appropriate and respectful of others and they must still wear their normal school trousers, skirts and shoes.  We would appreciate parent/carer support in ensuring your child is clear on this message and arrives at school appropriately dressed for the day.

For those who don't wish to participate they must wear their full school uniform.

We would encourage a £2 donation, and you will be able to donate either on-line this year, using your child's Scopay account, or students can hand in a cash donation to their tutor at the start of the school day; we know the charity will be very grateful for any donations, large or small.

Year 7 Disco

It was wonderful to see so many of our Year 7 students attend the PTA's Year 7 Christmas Disco held in the Main Hall last night.  DJ Dent, a former Rossett student, provided the music and the event was a great success and enjoyed by all - particularly the photo booth (supplied by our own Mr McKenzie)! Thank you to the PTA for organising this annual event and to the following students who gave up their time to help on the evening:

Neve Cairns, Caludia Asmussen, Brandon Winder and Brodie Winder.  Also thank you to Ewan McIntosh, Olivia Penman and Hugo Perez-Gonzalez who provided First Aid support for the event.

STageWinter Warmer Concert, Thursday 14 December

Rossett Arts Faculty is delighted to let you know that we are, once again, hosting our 'Winter Warmer' concert on Thursday 14 December from 6.30pm in the Main Hall.   The concert will feature performances by our extra-curricular music ensembles and solo performances which reflect the amazing talent of our students - it promises to be another great evening and Year 7 students have been working extremely hard in their music lessons over recent weeks.  Year 7 parents/carers received full details about the event by letter this week.   Tickets are available from today and can be purchased online via SCOPAY where they can be found under, 'trips & events'. Adult tickets are priced at £4  and include a mince pie and festive non-alcoholic punch.

Careers Fair pictureCareers Fair

We are looking forward to hosting our whole-school Careers Fair on Wednesday 13 December between 9.15am and 1pm.  Students from each year group will have the opportunity to talk to local employers, further and higher Education providers and apprenticeship training organisations, as well as hearing from volunteering organisations to help them explore the wealth of employment, learning and development opportunities available locally and further afield.  The event will take place in the Sports Hall and students have a timetabled session per year group to talk to our contributors and discuss future careers opportunities.  Our Careers Fair Parents newsletter was sent out earlier this week and is available again here.

Benjamin-Zephaniah-credit-Adrian-PopeLRC News from Mr Asker

It is very sad to see that the writer and poet Benjamin Zephaniah has died this week aged 65. Benjamin Zephaniah wrote novels and poetry for children and his first book for younger readers, Talking Turkeys, was hugely successful when it was first published. He was a fierce and passionate advocate for the role and importance of children’s books, children’s writing, diversity in children’s books and the importance of libraries in schools and local communities. The world of children’s literature is much poorer for his passing, and he will be greatly missed.

On a happier note, we now have a lovely Christmas tree in the LRC which is bringing much needed cheer and light to a dark and wet December. My thanks to the Library elves for their hard work in decorating it so nicely with no apparent arguments between them which is something of a first and very welcome indeed.

Next week I will share some thoughts on books with a Christmas or winter theme. In the meantime, I wish you a bookish and peaceful weekend.

Mr Asker
