National apprenticeship Week PosterNational Apprenticeship Week: Years 11 and 13

Next week is National Apprenticeship Week. The aim of National Apprenticeship Week is to help parents/carers find out more about apprenticeships and what they have to offer when your child completes their GCSEs or A-levels. There are many events being held and  these are ideal for you and your child to explore future career options and the routes they could take to get there.

During the week there are both virtual events and 'in-person' events taking place. They will be particularly useful to students if they are interested in finding local apprenticeship opportunities/vacancies or if they would like information, advice or guidance about apprenticeships in general. In particular, if your child is just about to leave school or Sixth Form and would like to investigate future career opportunities we would recommend them attending.

There are two Apprenticeship Fairs taking place next week:

  • Leeds Apprenticeship Fair taking place on Monday 7th February at the Leeds Arena from 2.00pm-8.00pm. This event is free. Both students and parents/carers can attend. However, you will need to book a ticket using the QR code on the LAF2022 flyer attached or use the link here.
  • Apprenticeship Fair at York Racecourse on Thursday 10th February from 11.00am-7.00pm. This event is open to all. Students and parents can register their attendance here.

A wide range of local and national employers will attend these events, showcasing the different apprenticeships they have on offer - as well as a range of organisations that can provide  advice, guidance and support on what an apprenticeship is, what’s available, and how to get started.

Further, detailed information has been sent to parents/carers by email today.

GCSE OptionsGCSE Options

All students have now had their one-to-one options guidance interviews in Year 9.  We hope that you and your child have found the resources, presentations, and meetings useful, and they are ready to make their decisions.  We have already had over a hundred options forms in this week.  The deadline for your child to return their options form is February 16th .  If they need any further guidance on the options process they should speak to their tutor, Ms Mooney, Mr Saunders or Mr Stone.

Assemblies

The Headteacher, Mr Saunders and Mr Royles delivered face to face assemblies this week.  Having previously been confined to remote assemblies, broadcast in to form rooms, it was a refreshing and welcome return to normality.  The students conducted themselves impeccably and heard about the new Rossett Curriculum, enrichment opportunities available to them and the importance of keeping themselves safe online.  We are delighted to be returning to live assemblies and we have an interesting and thought-provoking series of assemblies to come in the next few weeks.

EDF logoSTEM Opportunities for Year 9 and Year 10 students

The Engineering Development Trust (EDT) has arranged an on-line course over the February half term collaborating with multiple colleges, universities and companies to deliver their Routes into STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) programme.

Routes into STEM is an innovative online course which provides young people aged 13 to 15 (Yr9 & 10) with an understanding of the amazing opportunities offered by STEM based careers. The course provides guided learning for your child to work through flexibly and find out all about college, university, apprenticeships and careers in STEM from the experts. Throughout the duration of the course students will have a unique opportunity to access content from a list of colleges, universities and companies that have put together an interesting agenda to showcase STEM courses, apprenticeships, degrees and careers, giving your child the best chance to make informed decisions and to meet role models.  Click here for further information.

LFT HandContinuation of Lateral Flow Testing for students and staff

We ask that our parents and students  continue to support our safer school initiative by testing on Sunday and Wednesday evenings,   reporting the results – whether positive, negative or void – to NHS Test and Trace via the self-report option at https://www.gov.uk/report-covid19-result  and  also inform the school at: https://rossett.school/studentcovidreport.

Please note that this asymptomatic testing programme does not currently replace current guidance for those who develop the three Covid-19 symptoms, even if mild, which is to arrange a PCR test as soon as possible.

As you are aware,  under current guidance, anyone in England who receives a positive lateral flow device (LFD) test result should report their result on gov.uk and must self-isolate immediately, but will not need to take a follow-up PCR test.

After reporting a positive LFD test result, they will be contacted by NHS Test and Trace so that their contacts can be traced.

Anyone who tests positive will now be able to leave self-isolation FIVE DAYS after the date of their initial positive test if they receive two negative lateral flow test results, 24 hours apart, on days five and six or any subsequent consecutive days.

Students no longer need to self -isolate if someone in their household has symptoms or has tested positive for Covid-19 if any of the following apply:

  • students are under 18 years 6 months old
  • students are fully vaccinated
  • students are taking part or have taken part in a Covid-19 vaccine trial
  • students are not able to be vaccinated for medical reasons

In such cases, even if they do not have symptoms, students should still:

If you have any questions please email Mr Royles droyles@rossettschool.co.uk.

Well done to...

Evie Crabtree,  whose artistic talent caught the eye of her Art teacher this week who then nominated her for a Headteacher's  'Friday 5' Award.  Evie's Pop Art sculpture of a clock was brilliantly realised and her artistic research on Peter Blake, presented as a giant record player was original and inspired!

Students from all year groups are routinely rewarded - every week - with commendation letters and Award cards from the Headteacher to mark excellent assessments, effort, community contributions and for exemplifying the Rossett 3Rs (Responsibility, Reflectiveness and Resilience).
