Exam Season 2024: Changes to the School Day
During the examination period we run some revision sessions for our Year 11 students. To make these possible it is necessary to swap some periods in the school day. Students have been informed of these changes via their Form Tutors and will get reminders on the relevant days.
Leeds Rhino's Netball Trip
A group of our students had a fabulous afternoon out last Sunday to watch Leeds Rhino's Netball vs Loughborough Lightning in the NSL at the First Direct Arena in Leeds.
Although our home side, Leeds Rhino's lost students and staff had a fun afternoon dancing along to the half time songs, showing our support with plenty of snacks to keep them going.
We would like to express our thanks to parents who accompanied the visit and also, Miss Mooney, Mr O'Sullivan and Miss Smith for making the trip possible to inspire our own sports students. Have a look at Rossett PE's Instagram @rossettsport to see some more footage and photos from the afternoon.
In celebration of May 4th!
Tomorrow is May 4th and marks the annual celebration of all things Star Wars. Since the release of the original movie trilogy novels, graphic novels, comic books, and short stories have become a huge part of the Star Wars universe alongside further films, animated series, computer games, card and board games and other media. The books allow readers to delve deeper into specific Star Wars characters, worlds, histories and enjoy new thrilling, moving and exciting adventures in a galaxy far far way. There are books to suit every possible taste and interest from the back story of Boba Fett to dare I say it, the further adventures of Jar Jar Binks.
Where to start? Well students can come along to the Rossett LRC as I have invested in lots of Star Wars books, and these are very popular. I am always happy to talk to individual students about what we have on offer. However, our collection, whilst growing, only scratches the surface of what is available to read. The following authors Delilah S Dawson, Michael Stackpole, Drew Karpyshyn, Matt Stover, Charles Soule, James Luceno, Claudia Gray and Timothy Zahn come highly recommended and regularly top the lists of most popular Star Wars writers. They represent Star Wars new and old and are as good a place as any to start exploring the wider universe.
My own personal favourites are the From a Certain Point of View anthology books celebrating the first three films (Star Wars A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi) with short stories by 40 different writers. Each story reimagines a moment from the films but through the eyes of a supporting, side, or minor character. They are brilliant and well worth reading.
It’s probably best though not to get too worried about it and instead take advice from Yoda (a keen reader by all accounts) the celebrated Jedi Master.
“Do or Do Not….there is no try.”
Happy Star Wars reading and May The Fourth Be With You!
