Rossett News Update - 25 November 2022

Ofsted

We would like to thank our students, staff and parents/carers for their support this week during our two-day Section 5 Ofsted inspection.  We will communicate the outcome of this inspection with you as soon as we are able under the Ofsted timeline.

Presentation Evening

We celebrated the success of our 'outgoing' Year 11 students last night at our annual Presentation Evening.  Subject staff and parents/carers joined in the applause for the current Year 12s as subject and specialist awards were presented.

Our guest speaker, Bob Knight, attended Rossett from 1988 to 1993.  Bob was the only drummer in 1995 to win a place to study jazz at the world-renowned Royal Academy of Music in London and subsequently has been made an Associate there for his contribution to the music industry. Bob has since gone on to play the drums with some of the biggest names in music, live, in the recording studio, on television and to audiences all over the world - including Michael Bublé, James Arthur and Bette Midler - to name but a few!  Bob gave an inspirational speech before presenting GCSE, and BTEC certificates, and awards and trophies to special winners on the night.

Casey-Leigh Pycock (Year 13) gave an outstanding performance of 'Set Fire to the Rain' by Adele, and Amber Munns (Head Prefect) give a vote of thanks to all who attended the evening.  Well done to all of our award winners!

Uni visitEnglish Literature Workshop

We were delighted this week to welcome back Professor Jill Rudd from the University of Liverpool. Our Year 13 English Literature students were impeccable as they explored the complexities of critical debates around Christina Rossetti’s “Goblin Market” with great resilience. We thank Professor Rudd both for enthusing our students with a taste of undergraduate level education and for bringing her expertise to Rossett once again.

Winter Warmer Concert: Thursday 8 December

Rossett Arts Faculty are delighted to invite you to our 'Winter Warmer' concert which takes place on Thursday 8 December commencing at 6.45pm in our Main Hall.  The concert will feature performances by our extra-curricular music groups plus a range of solo and group items prepared by our students.

Tickets are available from Monday 28 November and can be purchased online via SCOPAY.  Adult tickets are priced at £4.00 which includes complimentary festive refreshments on arrival. Tickets for under 18s and concessions are priced at £2 each.   The evening will finish at approximately 8.15pm.

This year, as part of our Sixth Form Committee charity work, we are collecting donations of food to pass on to Harrogate Foodbank and would be grateful for any donations.  Click here for suggestions of what the Foodbank find useful.

Mock Examinations

Mock GCSE examinations in all subjects will commence on Monday 28 November for our Year 11 students.   Students will sit some of their mock examinations in the Sports Hall and other, options subjects, will be sat in classrooms during normal lesson times the following week.  These mock examinations will take place under full 'exam conditions'  to enable students to practise their written skills and to experience these conditions before their official examinations this summer.

We wish all of our students' 'good luck'; we have been very impressed with their attitude to learning and resilience in the lead up to these assessments.  Students are expected to bring their own stationery items such as: two black pens, pencils, a ruler and a protractor, a compass and an eraser - all in a clear pencil case or plastic bag.   Students should also ensure that they have a scientific calculator as this will be essential in their Mathematics and Science examinations.  Students are expected to attend school as normal during this period and have received a copy of the examinations' timetable.  Periods 3 and 5 will be swapped on all four days.
