Year 11 Supporting Your Child Evening

Last night we held our 'Supporting Your Child Evening' for parents/carers of our Year 11 students.  Mr Royles (Deputy Headteacher) and Mr Keyworth (Head of Sixth Form) provided an introduction and welcome, and gave guidance on how parents/carers could best support students in the run-up to the examinations next year.

Information was also available on the options for post-16 study and there was subject specific advice on preparation and strategies for the GCSE examinations.  The evening also offered practical advice, useful revision tips, techniques and information linked to support material and practice papers. Parents/carers also had the opportunity visit workshops in core subjects to gain subject specific revision guidance to help them support their children.  If you were unable to attend and want more details please contact

American Exchange

Rossett students taking part in the American Exchange enjoyed a wonderful first week in Maine, USA.  They have been involved in a variety of educational and leisure activities and have received a warm welcome from all at Falmouth Middle School.  Activities this week have included a visit to Portland Lighthouse; a fishing trip to catch lobsters - a local specialty; and a visit to a local educational tourist site, Victoria Mansion.  The students have also enjoyed lots of evening recreational activities such as bowling and laser tag. The visit continues into half term with more activities planned.

On Thursday, we marked the British Heart Foundation 'Restart a Heart' day with activities taking place throughout the day.  All Year 7 students were given 'hands-only' CPR training from our First Aid and Health Manager, assisted by our student First Aid Ambassadors. In addition, all students watched a video in Form Time reminding them of these vital skills which might one day save a life.

Sixth Form £10 Challenge

As part of our enrichment activities during students' time at Rossett Sixth Form, we aim is to raise as much money as possible to support our Sixth Form chosen charities. This year Sixth Form students have voted to support a local charity and a national charity, IDAS and Blood Cancer UK respectively.

Part of this fundraising is our £10 Challenge activity. Each form group in Sixth Form has received a £10 note, with the challenge of turning this into as much money as possible by 4 November 2022. Fundraising activities have included bake sales, football tournaments, splat the teacher, bringing our books and supplies to school in ‘anything but a bag’ and throwing cream pies at teachers!

SOROP-LOGOSoroptimist International

On Monday 10 October Sixth Form students welcomed Sandra Frier, President, and Sue Williams, Mentoring Team Leader, from the Harrogate and District branch of Soroptimist International. The aims of Soroptimist International is to achieve strong and peaceful communities worldwide, where women and children can achieve their potential, have improved lives and have equal voices. We were delighted to see that after the talk, a number of our Rossett Sixth Form students have offered to join the group and to support them with their social media marketing, spreading the work of Soroptimist International further.

LRC News from Mr Asker

Let me start by celebrating the hundreds of books that have been read and returned to the LRC this half term.  It is clear to see that there are so many enthusiastic readers across all the year groups and long may this continue. Zooming up in popularity have been books by Emma Carroll, Cavan Scott, Jacqueline Wilson to name but a few.

October has certainly brought a change in the weather inviting us back to reading on those damp and wet days when going outside doesn’t look so welcoming. Unbelievably I haven’t started a Halloween ghost or horror story yet so will try and remedy that over the holiday and I invite you to do the same. Time for a spooky read! Have a wonderful and bookish half term everyone.

Mr AskerBook Buzz 2023

You will remember from last week's Rossett News that our Year 7 students have recently received their Book Buzz books for 2022.  We are now delighted to share with you that our Learning Resource Centre Manager, Mr Asker, has been invited by the Book Trust (who run this scheme) to be a panel member selecting the books for Book Buzz 2023.

Mr Asker will visit the Book Trust HQ in January to join the judging panel and we are very excited for him and proud that his has been selected for this prestigious task.

poppyPoppy Appeal

We are pleased that we shall, once again, be supporting the Royal British Legion's poppy appeal for 2022. The Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal will focus on how a poppy shows you care and helps the Royal British Legion to continue its vital work supporting the Armed Forces.

Our Year 8 students will be visiting form rooms after half term to allow students the opportunity to donate to the appeal and wear their poppy with pride.

Please encourage your child(ren) to bring in a contribution for the collection after half term.  The suggested donation is at least £1.

Rossett First Aid Club

The Rossett Year 7 First Aid Club will re-start after the half term break. The club will run each Tuesday lunchtime (1.40 -2.05) in the Junior Block. This club is open to anyone in Year 7 who is interested in learning first aid. Students will be working towards a Level 1, Part 1 first aid qualification as well as having fun and learning key skills.

The senior team have just passed their Level 2 qualification and as a result there are a few places for students from Years 8 to 13 to join this group.

If your child would like to join in either of these first aid groups, please let Ms Rogers know in our First Aid Department or email hrogers@rossettschool.co.uk.
