Rossett News Update - 18 November 2022
Presentation Evening
The purpose of the evening is to celebrate the achievements of all students in last year's GCSE examination cohort - but also to reward those students who excelled in particular academic disciplines. The evening will commence with celebratory drinks in the main hall from 6.45pm.
Children in Need
BBC Children in Need charity fundraising returned to Rossett today. Students and staff supported this national charity raising funds with a non-uniform day.
Children in Need raises money for children from all backgrounds across the UK and we would like to make this year our best fundraising total to date. If you have not yet donated and would like to, you can do this through your child's Scopay account. Thank you for your support of this charity event.
COP27
This week, students in Years 7-11 have been discussing issues around the climate change conference taking place in Egypt (COP27). This has taken place in form time activities a part of the 'Here and Now' programme, and an assembly delivered by Mr Wilson. Students have also been reflecting on the way in which they could help reduce their impact on climate change.
Students have the opportunity to share their ideas on this issue at the Eco/sustainability group (see below).
Ecolution - Rossett's Sustainability/Eco Group
Is your child passionate about protecting the world we live in/ Do they have ideas about how we can make Rossett School more sustainable and get our students to think more sustainably? They are invited to share their ideas, help us formulate a plan and bring about change with like-minded students at our Ecolution Group.
All year groups are welcome, and the group meets each Thursday in J3 at 1.45pm. Students should contact Mr Wilson in the first instance and to obtain a lunch pass.
LRC News from Mr Asker
It has been great to see a number of new student librarians join the team over the past few weeks. They have brought great enthusiasm for reading, books and authors and some exciting fresh ideas to make the school library even better. Whether it is rearranging shelving, tidying, supporting other students to take out books, renew or return a book, they are unfailingly positive.
Whilst I mention returning books could you please remind your child to check if they have any overdue books that need returning at home. We no longer fine students for the late return of books and I would appreciate your support with encouraging students to return their books on time. We have a drop box just inside the LRC to make it as convenient as possible for students to make these returns.
It is interesting to see how 'word of mouth' influences the books that students choose. If I had ten sets of the Heartstopper books by Alice Oseman it wouldn’t be enough! The well-known Series of Unfortunate Events books by Lemony Snicket have been around a while but are very popular again currently. Likewise, Emma Carroll and her excellent historical fiction books.
I wish you a 'bookish' weekend, when it comes.
