Rossett News Update - 17 November 2023

Headteachers AwardHeadteacher Friday 5 Awards

Well done to all of the students who received a Friday 5 Headteachers Award this week.  These students have been nominated by members of staff for exemplifying Rossett School's 5Rs culture of  learning.  This week's winners are:

  • Hattie Smith
  • Nicky Cain
  • George Culverwell
  • Louis Ridsdale
  • Alfie Taylor-Neill
  • Millie Baxter

Students will meet with Mr Milburn on Tuesday 21st November to collect their Headteacher's Award token.

Pudsey 2022Children in Need

Students took part in a range of activities today to raise money for Children in Need.  Staff and students donated cakes and treats for a whole school 'bake sale' and enjoyed taking on the 'burpee' challenge and basketball challenge at lunchtime.  Students were also encouraged to donate any small change they had - and probably raided their piggy banks - to support this brilliant cause.  We will let you know how much was raised in next week's Rossett News;  thank you to everyone who contributed today.

Uniform, Attendance and Punctuality

Whilst the majority of our students are well presented we would like to remind you of our expectations regarding uniform.  Please ensure that:

  • Your child wears all black leather shoes (not trainers)
  • Students should not wear leggings
  • All students should wear a blazer.  Sweatshirts are optional and should be worn underneath a blazer.

Please see our full dress code here.

Attendance at school and punctuality to lessons are crucial to your child's academic success.  Please ensure that they arrive at school, on time every day.  Please also remind them of the importance of getting to lessons on time.

Thank you for your support.

Menin gate 4History trip to Ypres, Arras and the Somme, July 2024

We are delighted to, once again, be able to organise our cultural trip to the battlefields of Ypres and the Somme.  The trip is open to students in Year 9 and History students in Year 10. We will depart on Thursday 4 July, returning on Monday 8 July 2024.  For the full duration of the tour students will benefit from having their own authentically dressed British and German officers of the Great War to answer their questions about what it was like to be a soldier at the time.  The trip will include visits to the Hooge Crater Museum, a visit to Wellington Quarries, attending the Last Post Ceremony at the Menin Gate where they will lay a poppy wreath and more light-hearted visits  such as a Belgian chocolate shop.  If your child is interested in attending this trip please click here for the letter and further information.

IMG_5923Presentation Evening

We are looking forward to welcoming our parents, carers and students from last year's Year 11 to Rossett’s annual Presentation Evening on Thursday 30 November 2023.  Please click the link here if you would like to reserve seats.

The purpose of the evening is to celebrate the achievements of all students in last year's GCSE examination cohort - but also to reward those students who excelled in particular academic disciplines. The evening will commence with celebratory drinks in the main hall from 6.45pm.

Flu VaccineFlu Vaccinations

The flu vaccine is being offered to all students from Reception to Year 11 again this autumn/winter.  The nasal flu vaccine not only protects your child from the flu but also protects family and friends - especially those who are elderly, young babies, or those who have serious health conditions.  The nasal flu vaccine is very affective at reducing the spread of flu and is painless to administer.

The Yorkshire Immunisation Team are visiting Rossett School on 6 and 7 December 2023. To give consent for your child to have the flu vaccine, please click here.  Even if you do not wish for your child to have the vaccine, please complete the online form so that your wishes can be recorded.

UkraineReminder: First Aid Club Christmas Collection for Ukraine

As part of their on-going fundraising campaign, Rossett First Aid Club are, once again,  organising a collection on behalf of 'Yorkshire to Ukraine'.  This local charity is seeking donations (listed below) and aims to deliver them to refugee camps and people in need in the Ukraine.

Items must be in good, clean, useable condition. The charity are looking for warm clothing, bedding, duvets, children's clothing, toys, baby items, cleaning products, sanitary items, toiletries, tinned and long life foods, pet food, hats and gloves. All items must be received by 15 December.  The drop-off point for donations is our First Aid department behind main reception. Thank you for your support with this worthwhile charity.

Rossett Acre clothes for UkraineWe would like to thank the organisers of the recent Rossett Acre School jumble sale following their donation of a large amount of warm children's  clothes that were left over  after their event.  This is a fantastic contribution to our appeal and we are very grateful!
