Harrogate Foodbank Donations
Our Sixth Form students once again organised a festive foodbank collection over recent weeks to help ensure everybody in the Harrogate district can enjoy a Christmas dinner.
Led by the school’s designated Charity Prefects, the students have been collecting a wide range of food items, from everyday essentials to festive treats, which have been generously donated by the school community.
The donations were delivered in time for Christmas to the Harrogate District Foodbank as part of a nationwide network supported by The Trussell Trust, an organisation that aims to combat poverty and hunger across the UK.
Rossett Students Perform at Care Home
A group of talented Rossett students visited Granby Rose Care Home yesterday afternoon to perform a number of festive tunes to residents. The performance took place to residents so that they could enjoy the talented performances of our ensembles.
Well done to: Daisy Bielby, Anna Littlejohns, Hannah Davison, Tasha Littlejohns, Annabelle Gosper, Millie Smith, Sofiah Clayton, Casey Pycock, Charoltte Wormald and Obie Gillam. Thank you for taking the time to perfect your performances, I know the residents at Granby Rose enjoyed your visit very much.
Year 9 Letter Exchange
Our Year 9 French students have started a letter exchange with Le collège Jean Monet in Janzé in Britany recently. Students have been really excited to write their first letter to their French partners, introducing themselves, asking exciting questions and finding out about festivals in France…they did even mention the football! We have emailed the letters which will be read today by their French partners.
Before moving on to this exciting project the students finished their unit on festivals by bringing in typical festival desserts - des crêpes for la chandeleur, des bûches for Noël, de la nougatine, une galette des rois for l’Epiphanie where students got to explore the traditions involved with this cake….and the students became king for the day. We also experienced desserts from other parts of the world including Hong Kong.
Influenza Childhood Immunisation Programme 2022
A letter from the School Age Immunisation Team has been emailed to parents/carers of students in Years 7, 8 and 9 regarding the Influenza Immunisation Programme which will be delivered on 9 January 2023.
INFORMATION: Guidance for all settings on Scarlet Fever and Group A infections
The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) is reporting an increased number of cases of Group A Streptococcus (Strep A) compared to normal at this time of year. The bacteria usually cause a mild infection that can be easily treated with antibiotics. In very rare occasions, the bacteria can get into the bloodstream and cause an illness called invasive Group A strep (iGAS). Scarlet fever is caused by bacteria called Group A streptococci (Strep A).
There is no evidence that a new strain is circulating and the increase is most likely related to high amounts of circulating bacteria and social mixing.
Good hand and respiratory hygiene are important for stopping the spread of many bugs.
By teaching children how to wash their hands properly with soap for 20 seconds, using a tissue to catch coughs and sneezes, and keeping away from others when feeling unwell, they will be able to reduce the risk of picking up or spreading infections.
Symptoms can include a sore throat, headache, and fever, along with a fine, pinkish or red body rash with a sandpapery feel. On darker skin, the rash can be more difficult to detect visually but will have a sandpapery feel.
If you suspect your child may have Strep A you should contact your doctor (or 999 in an emergency).
For more information visit the UKHSA website or the Education Hub.
Learning Support Centre
To celebrate the spirit of Christmas, students from Rossett’s new Learning Support Centre gave back something to the local community today as a thank you for all the support they have received this term from dedicated Rossett staff in the LSC.
The LSC Year 11s, along with Mr McKenzie and Mr Warren, took bags full of presents to give to excited young children at Rossett Acre Primary School whose families are struggling this Christmas and need that extra bit of love and support.
Mr Warren said he was proud of the way LSC students had shown their compassionate side in carefully wrapping presents for deserving younger children: “Rossett School is special because it wholeheartedly embraces the idea of inclusion for everyone. At Christmas, it is important that we remember we are not just selfish individuals, but part of a wider community; it was heart-warming to see our young people thinking of others and doing their bit to repay the help and kindness they have received this term.”
The presents were kindly donated by Mission Christmas (https://cashforkids.org.uk/mission) whose mission is to provide “Christmas for every child”. Their charitable work in Leeds and Harrogate aims to provide Christmas presents for families amidst the cost-of-living crisis.
