BBC Careers Event

BBC bitesize 2This week, students in Years 8, 9, 10 and 11 had the opportunity to take part in the 'BBC Share Your Career Story' event which was held in our Sports Hall.   The event has been developed to inspire and inform students about careers in storytelling and the creative industries.

In each session, specially selected local industry professionals were guided by a BBC host in a discussion focussed on careers in storytelling.  Storytelling is incredibly important to a whole range of careers such as Marketing, News/Sports reporting, Law, Entrepreneurship and much, much more.  The panel was made up of BBC staff as well as business representatives from the local area.  The feedback from our students was really positive - they said they were inspired by not only the different types of careers that are available to them locally, but also the many different routes they could choose to achieve their ambitions, such as through apprenticeships and work experience opportunities, as well as university.

Panto 2Pantomime Visit for Year 7

On Wednesday, we took 103 Year 7 students to  Harrogate Theatre to watch their annual Pantomime performance –   our largest group theatre visit since before the pandemic. This year's production  didn't  disappoint and  was full of  traditional slapstick comedy, jokes, audience participation and a sing-a-long which kept the students entertained.

Our students displayed exemplary behaviour throughout and it was commented on by theatre staff and members of the public how polite, well-mannered and well behaved  the students were.  Mrs Buxey (Teacher of Drama) commented, "our Year 7 students were an absolute pleasure to take to the theatre and the staff attending were very impressed with how well the year group represented Rossett School ".

Community Notice: NSPCC Young People's Board for Change

nspcc-logoDo you know children and young people aged 13–16 with views to share?

If the answer is yes, then the NSPCC would love to hear from them!

We are looking for 15 young people from across the UK to join our Young People’s Board for Change. The Board will share their views and ideas with decision-makers like NSPCC trustees, staff and politicians. Members will get involved in fun projects, take part in residentials, meetings, and workshops to share what matters most to them. PLEASE NOTE: Applications close on 23rd January and interviews will be held during February and March 2023.

 The young people must be:

  • Between 13 and 16 years old
  • Committed to being a member of the Young People’s Board for Change for 2 years
  • Want to change the lives of other children and young people that might be having a hard time
  • Committed to attending all online and in-person sessions and other events
  • Willing to share their ideas and opinions to the board to the best of their ability
  • Prepared to listen to others and respect their views

You can find a recruitment pack with an A5 flyer, information sheets, application form and parent/carer consent form on the NSPCC website.

Please share the opportunity with your school community. If you have a school website, weekly newsletter or social platforms, we would welcome you promoting it via these channels. We would also welcome your support in nominating young people to join the Young People’s Board for Change.

Young people can apply by filling out an application form and sending this to us, or completing one online at nspcc.org.uk/boardforchange

If a young person would like to send a paper version of their application, they can do this by addressing an envelope to ‘Participation Team, Childline Freepost NATN1111, London EC2A 3NH’. They do not need to include a stamp.

We’ll be here to support young people through every step of their journey. We have access to specialist agencies to ensure that we can meet their individual needs as far as possible. NSPCC will cover the cost of all reasonable expenses for things such as travel and food.

This is a great opportunity for young people, who would not normally get the chance to share their views, to influence our work. For more information about the board, and for an informal chat please contact participationteam@nspcc.org.uk.

We hope to empower young people by giving them the life-long skills and confidence needed to take action on issues that matter most to them. Help us to inspire more of them to have a say.
