Rossett News Update - 11 November 2011
Armistice Day
The whole school joined together today to mark Armistice Day with all of our students and staff observing a two-minute silence in the grounds of the school at 11am.
Following a dedication by Ms Woodcock, our Head Prefects, Amber Munns and Adam Caswell read 'For the Fallen' and the Last Post was played most impressively by Obie Gillam (Year 9) and the observance ended with the 'Reveille'.
We were very impressed with the mature and respectful manner in which all of our students approached this annual remembrance event.
Presentation Evening
Invitations have been sent out to our last year’s Year 11 students inviting them back to Rossett’s annual Presentation Evening on 24 November 2022. The purpose of the evening is to celebrate the achievements of all students in last year's GCSE examination cohort - but also to reward those students who excelled in particular academic disciplines. The evening will commence with a celebratory drink from 6.45pm.
Due to the popularity of this event Year 11 students may apply for a maximum of three tickets (one for the individual student and two guests).
Children in Need
BBC Children in Need charity fundraising returns to Rossett next week! On Friday 18 November students will be supporting this national charity raising funds with a non-uniform day. Our suggested donation of £2 can be given directly to tutors on the day or you can donate online before/after the event or on the day itself via Scopay. Students have the option to come in fancy dress. A reminder, all clothing must be appropriate for a learning environment.
Children in Need raises money for children from all backgrounds across the UK and we would like to make this year our best fundraising total to date - the more students who donate or who take part in activities, the more we will be able raise and donate! Thank you in advance for your support.
Year 7 Visit to Bewerley Park - 22-24 February 2023
We are delighted to be able to offer our Year 7 students the opportunity to attend an outdoor pursuit course at Bewerley Park Outdoor Centre in the Yorkshire Dales. This will include activities such as mountain biking, ghyll-scrambling, climbing, canoeing and orienteering with many more activities confirmed nearer the time.
Educational visits organised by Rossett School are an optional yet invaluable part of school life, and we believe this course offers an exciting experience, not only for the activities, but also the residential aspect of students living with their peers. This is being launched to students next week and further information in letters will be sent to parents/carers at this time.
English Department Writing Competitions
Please encourage your child to speak to Miss Tolliday if there are interested in either of these competitions.
Scopay
Following the introduction of new Banking security for card transactions, some credit/debit cards have not been working on SCOPAY.
Therefore, SCOPAY have been putting changes in place with the intention of solving this issue. This will go through within the next few weeks and the only change you should notice is that the payment screen will look different.
We will send out confirmation when the process has been completed.
First Aid Club Collection for Ukraine
As part of their on-going fundraising campaign, Rossett First Aid Club are organising a collection on behalf of 'Yorkshire to Ukraine'. This local charity is seeking donations (listed below) and aims to deliver them to refugee camps and people in need in the Ukraine. Our First Aid Club will be accepting donations throughout November, and we ask that you drop these off at Student Reception/First Aid area, during the school week.
Items must be in good, clean, useable condition. The charity are looking for clothing, bedding, duvets, sleeping bags, tins of food, packet soup, pet food, sanitary products, toiletries, hats, gloves, scarves, shoes and items suitable for babies and children (including toys in good condition). All items must be received by Friday 2nd of December. Thank you for your support with this worthwhile charity.
