Rossett News Update - 26 September 2025

Open Event Tomorrow

We've been busy getting ready for our Open Event tomorrow!

The first 150 Year 6 students through the doors will receive a Rossett goodie bag. There's also a treasure hunt to complete and some Rossett water bottles up for grabs, as well as a raffle with prizes donated by Harrogate Town AFC!

And our very own Miss Owen and Mr Barlow have been hard at work creating a fantastic photo cut-out board so our visiting Year 6s can strike a pose!

Parkrun Takeover - Thank you!

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us on Saturday for our parkrun takeover on the Stray in Harrogate, despite the torrential rain!

We’re especially grateful to our fantastic staff and parents who volunteered and offered encouragement along the route, and to all the students and staff who ran or walked the 5 km in the downpour. You demonstrated true Rossett resilience!

American Exchange 2026/27

Applications are now open for the 2026/27 American Exchange.

This is an exchange programme which has been running between Rossett and Falmouth Middle School in Maine, USA for over 35 years.  Pupils will travel to Maine in October 2026 where they stay with their Falmouth exchange partners, sample American school life and visit some of Maine’s most iconic landmarks, all against the backdrop of the beautiful 'fall' colours!

As part of the exchange they will also get to spend two nights in beautiful and historic Boston and will then host their exchange partners here in Yorkshire in April 2027.  This fantastic opportunity is open to all current members of Year 8; any interested students should see Mr Elcock in school to collect an application letter, or email ElcockT@rs.rklt.co.uk

Heating Update

Due to unforeseen circumstances, we are currently without heating in school. Significant repair work is due to take place over the half-term break to fully restore the system.

In the meantime, we are closely monitoring indoor temperatures to maintain a safe and comfortable learning environment and are sourcing portable heaters to provide extra warmth where needed.

Celebrating the European Day of Languages

Today we celebrated the 25th anniversary of the European Day of Languages.

The Rossett Kitchen served up some delicious European dishes, including moules, kebabs, paella, haggis and Portuguese tarts. Our Year 7 students explored the theme, 'Languages Open Hearts and Minds' and impressed us with their creativity. Every student's poster will be on display in the Year 7 dining room and you can see the top 3 entries below!

Teachers joined in the fun by greeting students in different languages, running a quiz in form time and incorporating an escape room into their lessons.

It was a fantastic day celebrating the power of languages.

Winter Support for Families

As we get closer to winter, we would like to remind families that there are a wide range of support services available across Harrogate to help with utility costs, food, clothing, wellbeing and more. Each week over the next few weeks, we'll highlight different organisations in the area that offer support.

The Village is a community hub, giving those who need support and friendship a place to go. There is a baby bank, children's clothing bank, uniform swap shop and a conversation cafe.
