Rossett News Update - 16 May 2025

Proud to be Rossett

Earlier this week, we were delighted to share that our school has been rated ‘Good’ in all areas in its latest Ofsted inspection, a remarkable achievement and a huge leap forward from previous reports.

Ofsted inspectors praised our school as “happy, welcoming and inclusive”, highlighting the strong community spirit, expert teaching, and the school’s unwavering commitment to student wellbeing and success.

We’d like to say well done and thank you to our staff, students, families, and the entire Rossett School community. Your hard work, dedication, and support of our improvement measures have been invaluable!

To continue the conversation, we will be hosting a Parent Forum on Thursday 22 May to discuss the report and the exciting road ahead. Please keep reading for more information and if you would like to attend, please click here

Sponsored Walk - 27th June 2025

Our whole-school Sponsored Walk is just around the corner. After May half term, we’ll be starting the official countdown - and each week we’ll share the running total of sponsorship raised so far.

This is a fantastic event that brings our school community together, promotes wellbeing, and raises money for great causes. This year we’re raising money for:

  • Horticap - supporting young people with learning disabilities through horticulture and rural skills.
  • New Beginnings - helping women and children in North Yorkshire who have experienced domestic abuse.

A big thank you to those who’ve already donated or pledged support!

Reminder: Please encourage your child to collect sponsorship from family and friends. Donations should be made via SCOPAY so we can keep track! We also have a Go Fund Me page and donations are welcome here too.

If you are or know a local business, we’d love your support too! If you're able to sponsor the event or donate, please get in touch.

Let’s make this our biggest and best walk yet!

Year 7 Science Competition

On Thursday, six of our Year 7 students represented Rossett at an exciting science competition held at Lawnswood School, competing alongside thirteen other Red Kite schools.

They took on challenges across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, putting their creativity and problem-solving skills to the test.

In Physics, they designed and built a boat to hold the most mass before sinking. In Biology, they constructed a DNA model using string, pipe cleaners, and pasta. In Chemistry, they tackled tasks related to the periodic table.

We’re very proud that our team placed 3rd in the Physics challenge, a fantastic achievement! Their enthusiasm and teamwork made the day a great success. A huge well done to all involved - what a brilliant way to celebrate science in action!

Careers Support for our Year 11s

This week’s Careers Bulletin is dedicated to our Year 11 students, who are not only working hard for their GCSE exams but also finalising their plans for next year.

Some students have known their next steps for a while, others have decided more recently, and some may still be undecided. If your child is unsure about what they’d like to do next or has changed their mind, the Rossett Careers Team is here to help: wainwrighte@rs.rklt.co.uk

This is important information for all Year 11 parents and we encourage all families to take a moment to read the bulletin and explore the support available. To read the bulletin, please click here

Former Student Goes the Distance

We’re very proud to share that former Rossett student, Emma Coates, recently completed the London Marathon in an impressive 5 hours - an incredible achievement, especially given the heat on the day.

Emma was running in support of a cause close to her heart: Prostate Cancer UK. Emma is now studying Economics at university and continues to impress us with her dedication and determination. Well done!

KS3 End of Year Assessments

Our Key Stage 3 (Years 7-9) End of Year Assessments will take place during lesson time between Monday 9th June and Friday 28th June.

These assessments will help us see what skills and knowledge our students have learned this year and identify any areas where they might need extra support.

Important: On Monday, we will be sending a detailed email with the assessment schedule and how your child can prepare. All revision and support materials will be placed on Teams. Students will be informed of the dates of their individual assessments by their class teachers. Please check your inboxes on Monday for this information.

Progress on 20mph Scheme for South-West Harrogate

We’re pleased to share an important update on the South-West Harrogate 20mph scheme. The first phase, covering around 200 roads, has been officially approved and will begin rolling out from the end of May.

Our school falls within Phase 2 of the project. This next stage is particularly important for the safety of students and families at Rossett and other local schools. It includes the design and consultation of new traffic calming measures, this consultation is expected to begin later this Summer or early Autumn.

We encourage all parents to support the scheme by engaging with the consultation process once it opens - positive feedback from school communities will be key to its success.

Thank you for your continued support in making our streets safer for everyone.
