Rossett News Update - 15th May 2026

Year 13 Graduation

We had a lovely evening last Thursday celebrating our Year 13 students at their graduation ceremony before they left us on Friday.

Thank you to everyone who joined us on the night and helped to make it such a special occasion.

For many of these students, this marked the end of seven years at Rossett. We're so proud of what they've achieved and wish them all the very best for whatever the future holds. We look forward to seeing what they get up to!

Safeguarding Alert: Viral 'Squishy Toy' Trend

The North Yorkshire Safeguarding Children Partnership have alerted us to a viral online trend that is placing children and young people at risk of serious injury.

The trend involves children microwaving soft ‘squishy’ toys (such as NeeDoh or jelly cube products) after viewing online content suggesting this will make them softer. When handled after heating, these items can burst and release extremely hot contents, which has reportedly resulted in serious burns to hands, faces and skin.

What you can do:

  • Talk to your child about the risks of copying online challenges or trends
  • Remind them that not everything seen online is safe or accurate
  • Ensure squishy toys or similar items are never heated or microwaved
  • Encourage your child to come to you if they see something online that concerns them

Year 7 Science Competition

The Year 7 science competition team had a great day competing against other local schools for the coveted golden microscope trophy yesterday!

After three nail-biting rounds of practical challenges and two quizzes, the winners of each category were announced. Sadly, they missed out on the biology prize but were very proud of the animal they created, Harry, who is adapted for the jungle (as seen in the photo!). We are really proud of them, they represented all of our Rossett values perfectly!

Quiz Night

We had a bumper turnout at last Friday's Quiz Night!

A big thank you to our PTA for organising such a fab evening, to Mr Lee for his excellent quiz mastery and to everyone who came along!

Congratulations to the winners, Team Boson, who named themselves after the famous Higgs boson particle from particle physics. With a name like that, it's no surprise they won!

KS3 End of Year Assessments

A reminder that our Key Stage 3 (Years 7–9) end-of-year assessments will take place in normal classrooms from Monday 1st to Friday 12th June.

These assessments will help us understand the knowledge and skills students have developed this year, as well as identify any areas where further support may be needed.

Teachers will provide students with clear information about what will be assessed and how best to prepare, along with any relevant revision materials in advance. The Inclusion Team will also be available to support students with SEND to ensure they can access the assessments appropriately.

A detailed letter, including the full assessment schedule and further guidance, will be sent to parents next week. Please look out for this important information.
