Rossett News Update - 23 February 2024

ofsted-logoOfsted

As you know an Ofsted monitoring inspection was carried out on Tuesday 23rd January 2024.  On Thursday this week we were pleased to share their judgement with you about the progress leaders have made to improve the school.  A letter was sent to all parents/carers on Thursday with the full details of the visit, please check your email if you haven't already done so.

Overall, we are pleased with the outcome of the visit and hope that the findings give you confidence and trust that improvement is being made quickly and in the right way.  Following this visit, we would like to invite parents/carers to a virtual event on Wednesday 28th February where Mr Milburn will speak more about the findings from the visit and how this will be reflected in the School Improvement Plan and where we can work together to ensure there is even greater 'success for everyone'.  Click the link in the letter to complete a short form if you would like to attend.

Sixth Form Taster Event and Open Evening

On Wednesday 21st February Year 11 students applying to Rossett Sixth Form took part in a Taster Day during Periods 3 and 4. Students experienced a taster session for one of their chosen Year 12 subjects, an EPQ taster session and an introductory assembly. The students were a credit to themselves and showed real enthusiasm within all the taster sessions. On Wednesday evening we held our Open Evening, where students and parents attended a welcome talk with Mr Milburn, Mr Saunders and Mr Keyworth, then had the opportunity to meet with subject staff and current Year 13 students to find out more about the wide range of courses available. It was fantastic to see so many engaged and motivated students and we look forward to welcoming them to Rossett Sixth Form in September.

Bewerley Park

Our Year 7 students have enjoyed a fun filled week of activities at Bewerley Park this week. They have challenged themselves to the leap of faith (over 13m high!), rock climbing, mine exploring, canoeing, mountain biking and ghyll scrambling. Despite a mix of weather conditions all of the students have taken advantage of every activity offered to them and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Requests for evening activities tonight include a selection of takeaway menu items and an early bedtime!

Thank you to all of the staff who accompanied the students, especially our trip leader, Miss Taswell who took the fantastic pictures below.

This half term we are running our tutor group competition, 'class currency'. This competition involves groups competing to collect the most exceptional learner tokens. The winning tutor group in each year group by the end of half term will win a lesson off timetable, with a choice of rewards activities on offer.

The overall winning tutor group will win a fully funded cinema trip during school hours. We are extremely lucky to have a supportive PTA who have offered to fund this reward for the winning tutor group. The Rossett PTA are always looking for new members - please get in touch if you would like to be involved.

First Aid 3First Aid Club: New members wanted!

We recently said 'farewell' to our Year 11 and Year 13 First Aid club members to allow for them to focus their time of their exam preparation and studies.  We would love to recruit new members to the team which is open to all students who have an interest in learning first aid skills and helping others.

The first aid team work towards recognised qualifications, have fun with casualty simulation, learn about other associated health care subjects and help raise funds and collect items for local and international charities.  Members of the club also support the wider school community by providing student first aiders for many events such as Sports Day, our sponsored walk and many musical performances.  Being involved in the in the first aid team is a fantastic starting point for any child interested in babysitting, a future in a healthcare profession or more generally about working in a team and having fun!

The first aid team meet in P11 straight after school each Thursday evening, finishing just in time for the late buses at 16.30pm.  If your child is interested in joining the team they should call in to see Mrs Rogers in the First Aid Office Monday-Thursday.
