Rossett News Update - 20 January 2023
National Strike Action
As you may be aware members of the NEU are preparing for national strike action on 1 February 2023. Rossett is planning a contingency for this date should any member of staff at Rossett decide to take action. We will follow the national guidance regarding the strike action and seek to minimise the impact on our students as much as possible. However, there may be a need for a blended approach with some students working from home remotely if we do not have sufficient staff to deliver the curriculum and provide adequate supervision. We will communicate in writing our plans by the middle of next week.
Uniform
Our recent focus on improving uniform has been very successful, but we will continue to expect all students arriving at school correctly dressed. As a reminder:
- School uniform is available to view and purchase from Rawcliffe's in Harrogate www.rawcliffesharrogate.co.uk.
- We understand there is a cost-of-living crisis and therefore if you are struggling to afford school shoes or other items, you can contact ipeat@rossettschool.co.uk to see if we can support you.
- Please also contact ipeat@rossettschool.co.uk if you wish to see if we have second hand uniform your child can have.
Punctuality Drive
From Monday 30th January the school will be making some changes to the running of lesson change overs in order to ensure all students arrive to their next lesson on time.
Arriving on time to lessons was identified as something a minority of students need to improve, by Ofsted in their recent inspection. With a large site like ours, it is vital students move from one lesson to the next without delay so that learning time is not disrupted. Details of these changes will be shared with both students and parents next week.
Year 9 Options
Year 9 Immunisations for Tetanus, Diphtheria and Polio (Td/iPV) and Meningitis ACWY (Men ACWY)
Parents/Carers of Year 9 students have been emailed regarding the national programme of immunisations to be delivered to Year 9s which will take place in school on 27 February 2023. The letter contains important information on the vaccinations. The School Age Immunisation Service has a new e-consent portal which is web based and has a dedicated area for our school and a link to this is contained in the letter.
LRC News from Mr Asker
A fantastic story on any number of levels which again confirms how powerful reading is, both for the individual and for a sense of community and belonging.
Thinking of community it was hugely encouraging to see that the number of independent bookshops in the UK and Ireland climbed to a 10-year high in 2022 despite the wider ongoing challenges that we face currently. Like school and local Libraries, independent bookshops create a sense of community and togetherness. Please do support your local Independent Bookshop if you are in the position to do so.
Meanwhile in the LRC here at Rossett it is very busy. I particularly enjoy welcoming Year 7 and Year 8 groups in on an almost daily basis so that they can browse, read for pleasure, ask for recommendations and recommend books to me, check out new titles, find a new genre or author and enjoy thirty minutes or so of quiet reading activity.
I wish you a bookish weekend when it comes.
