Rossett News Update - 27 January 2023
Rossett Sporting Success
Both the Year 10/11 rugby team and the Year 7/8 rugby team beat King James's School this week. Both matches showcased the incredible sporting talent Rossett is well-known for. The Year 10/11 won 20 tries to 15 and the Year 7/8 6 tries to 4. A special mention goes to Will Harwood (Year 11), Max Bradshaw (Year 10), Kaine Kilkenny (Year 7), and Brandon Winder (Year 8) for their impressive performances on the pitch.
We are building back our sporting prowess following the pandemic and if your child is interested in joining a sports club we encourage them to speak to the PE Department about what opportunities there are to get involved in.
Lunches at Rossett
We are proud of our high-quality, varied menu prepared by our team of chefs led by Executive Chef, Steve Ashburn. We periodically review our offer to ensure it is providing both a healthy balance for students and reflects student voice. Therefore, next week we will be sending a survey to all students so they can give us feedback on our current offer and their experience of lunchtimes. We will use this information to further improve mealtimes whilst ensuring we meet the healthy schools standards. Please encourage your child to complete this survey which will be sent to them during Form Time next week.
National Strike Action - Wednesday 1st February 2023
You may be aware that the National Education Union (NEU) is planning national strike action on Wednesday 1st February 2023. This is due to a dispute with the government, not with the school. As a result of this, the school is not able to open to all students on this day, and instead, must prioritise certain students for face-to-face schooling and others will be at home learning remotely. This was a difficult decision for the school to make but is necessary due to the high degree of uncertainty associated with strike action and the numbers of staff it will involve.
Punctuality Drive
As you are aware, arriving on time to lessons was identified by Ofsted as an area of improvement in their recent inspection. The vast majority of students at Rossett consistently arrive at school, and to each of their subsequent lessons, on time. However, we have some students who, despite numerous reminders, phone calls home and the clear publication of our expectations, do not manage this and are late.
We have already achieved great success in improving uniform over the last four weeks by working in partnership together. This is our next big focus in addressing points raised in the Ofsted report. We thank you in advance for your support with this initiative.
Rossett School PTA Quiz Night
Join us for our annual PTA Quiz Night which is being held in the Main Hall on Friday 3 February between 7.00pm and 10.00pm (doors open at 6.30pm). Our resident quiz master (and teacher of Science) Mr Lee is once again in charge of the questions and it promises to be another fun evening. There will be a fish and chip supper, a tuckshop selling soft drinks and sweets, and guests can bring their own alcohol. We have received some fantastic raffle prizes which include:

The event is for open for everyone and all abilities (children to be accompanied by an adult). Tickets are priced at £10 per adult and £6 per child including supper (sausage and chips and veggie options are also available) or £5 per adult and £4 per child for a ticket only.
First Aid
We ask you to remind your child that if they feel unwell whilst at school they should visit our First Aid team in the first instance. In the majority of cases students are able to continue with their school day following guidance and/or appropriate medication from the First Aid team, therefore they should not ring their parents/carers in order to be collected from school. If they are not well enough to continue with their day at school, our First Aid and Health Manager will contact home to make the necessary arrangements for the child to be collected.
