Rossett School is proud to offer a high quality of education and a cutting edge curriculum to students from Year 7 through to our Sixth Form. 

We know how important the choice of secondary school is for you and your child and invite you to visit; to meet with our staff and students and to see how Rossett School delivers ‘success for everyone’.

We welcome applications for a September start in Year 7 and our Sixth Form, as well as in-year applications for Years 7 to 13 (all year round).

Rossett School is part of Red Kite Learning Trust (RKLT); a Multi-Academy Trust (MAT) made up of 14 schools in North and West Yorkshire.  Red Kite Learning Trust is the admission authority for the schools within the Trust and as such is responsible for setting fair, clear and objective arrangements for entry into each of its school.  You can view the detailed entry criteria within our school admissions policies [see below links].   

Whilst Red Kite Learning Trust determines the policies, North Yorkshire Council (NYC) administer the application process as the local authority.

Applying for a Place in Year 7  

  • To apply for a Year 7 place (to start secondary school in September 2025) you must submit your application form between 12 September and 31 October 2024 (national deadline  

  • Before you apply, it is important to read through each of the 2025/26 admissions policies for the schools of interest to you (for Rossett School please see below link / here). 
  • Places will be offered in writing by North Yorkshire Council on Secondary National Offer Day 3 March 2025.

In-Year Applications 2024/25 

If you would like to change schools, or if you are moving into the area for example, you can apply for a school transfer by making an in-year application. 

An in-year application is for the admission of a child to Year 7 if submitted on or after the first day of the first school term of the admission year; or it is for the admission of a child to any other age group at any time. 

Red Kite Learning Trust and its Harrogate schools are part of the North Yorkshire Council co-ordinated in-year admissions scheme. 

How to Apply  

Parents and carers may apply at any time for an in-year school placeApplication forms are provided and processed by North Yorkshire Council: schooladmissions@northyorks.gov.uk (tel. 0300 131 2131). 

You can apply for a place online using the local authority in-year application form at: Changing schools and in-year applications | North Yorkshire Council 

If you have moved to a new house, please upload evidence of the move with the online application.  

Parents and carers will be notified in writing by North Yorkshire Council of the school’s decision. This will be within 15 school days of your in-year application being received.   

If your in-year application is unsuccessful, you will have the right of appeal against the school’s decision.  


Admissions Appeals 

If you do not receive an offer for your preferred school, you may appeal against the decision not to offer your child a place. The appeals are arranged by North Yorkshire Council  

Please note that appeals submitted for a Year 7 place, for a child to start school at the beginning of the academic year in September, will need to be received by North Yorkshire Council’s deadline to guarantee being heard before the new school year starts (see below link).

For full details about our Sixth Form, please read our prospectus, which we hope will inspire you to make Rossett School your choice for post-16 education. Rossett School is proud to deliver ‘Success for Everyone’. Year on year our students leave with excellent results and go on to gain places at their university of choice, advanced apprenticeships or to take up exciting opportunities in the world of work.

Sixth Form Application process 

All Year 11 students already on roll at Rossett School and who meet the academic requirements are eligible to continue their studies into the Sixth Form.  

We also welcome applications from students from schools other that Rossett. External students must apply by completing our online application form.
