Rossett News Update - 23 November 2018

Japanese Exchange

DsidhMRXQAA4u2c

The Japanese exchange students and staff from Ishigami High School have had a successful visit to Rossett once again.  They took part in activities including a trip to York and a visit to the Mayor's office in Harrogate, as well as a farewell 'traditional' fish and chip supper followed by karaoke!

It has been another fantastic opportunity to share our cultural traditions with our friends from Japan and continue the long-established exchange that is now in its 32nd year.  Rossett students and staff are very much looking forward to visiting Japan in 2019.

Sixth Form Taster Day – Friday 30 November

On Friday 30 November Year 11 students will have the opportunity to sample life in the Sixth Form at Rossett.  During this busy and informative day we will provide students with the opportunity to attend four ‘taster’ lessons from a range of 30 established subjects. In addition to this, they will attend a session giving advice on their fourth option e.g. EPQ. To enhance the experience, students will adhere to the Sixth Form ‘office dress’ code, and be given the opportunity to sample the Sixth Form facilities and cafe provision.

Sixth Form staff will also be available throughout the day to give advice and to outline both the academic and the wider opportunities available in the Sixth Form.  Current Year 12 and 13 students will be engaged in research and study at home on Friday 30 November.

Sixth Form Information Evening - Thursday 6 December

The Sixth Form Information Evening for Year 11 students and parents will be held on Thursday 6 December 2018 commencing at 7.00pm with a presentation from the Headteacher in the main hall.  This is a very important evening as the Subject Fair – which takes place in the Sixth Form Centre – will provide detailed information about the courses and enrichment opportunities on offer.  Sixth Form Ambassadors will be available during the evening and parents are encouraged to speak to them about their experience at Rossett.

Road Safety Week 2018

Road Safety Week logoAs part of Road Safety Week 2018 the First Aid Team and new first aid students took part in a mock road traffic accident on Thursday evening.  The students looked at accident prevention, personal safety equipment and possible injuries caused by road traffic incidents.

This is part of our new first-aid  training to allow students to think through incident management and gives the team the opportunity to showcase their skills in casualty simulation.

Epi-Pen

Further to recent reports in the media we wanted to remind you of current guidelines concerning the use of Epi-pens in school:

  • It is recommended that all students who use adrenaline auto injections have two doses of medication with them at all times;
  • For secondary school students, medication should be kept in their personal bag;
  • Please can parents/carers make sure that their child has two injections and any other allergy medication listed on the child’s allergy action plan in their school bag.  Please can you also check that your child knows how to follow their action plan and use their injection;
  • Key staff have received Epi-pen awareness training so that they know how to deal with this potentially life threatening emergency.

It is possible to keep a spare injection in our First Aid office but this should not count as one of the two in the students bag.  For further advice on Epi-pens, please contact Ms Rogers our First Aid and Health Manager  hrogers@rossettschool.co.uk.

Rossett Co-Curricular Activities
