Rossett News Update – 7 September 2018

Welcome back. I hope that everyone enjoyed the ‘record breaking’ temperatures this summer.

Congratulations to all our students celebrating A Level and GCSE results

At A Level performances in traditional facilitating subjects were particularly strong, with more than 44 per cent of the results being awarded at A* or A grade in English Literature and 40 per cent at A*/A in Mathematics.  A quarter of the A Level grades in the Sciences were also awarded these prestigious A* and A grades.

At GCSE Rossett students’ performance in core subjects has been particularly impressive: more than three-quarters of the students achieved grade 4 or above in English, English Literature and Maths. Of these, 22% of students achieved the top grades of 9-7 in English language and the Mathematics’ 9-7 results were also above the national average.

2Building improvements

Our brand-new Learning Resource Centre is now open and offers state-of-the-art facilities including an IT suite and iPad stands – as well as lots of books – in a bright and inviting space. Four new classrooms and a computer room have been created in the space vacated by the old LRC and many doors and windows have been replaced in Music, Social Science and Drama.

Our PE block has been refurbished – every stairwell, corridor and space shows new flooring, new lighting and new facilities for students and staff.  The outdoor PE facilities have also been redeveloped and in the Autumn term, our two new multi-use games area (MUGA) pitches will be completed, offering improved playing surfaces for a number of sporting activities including football, netball and hockey.  These pitches are also ‘bookable’ at www.rossettsportscentre.co.uk.

You will have received a letter from the Pastoral Team outlining the following in further detail:

Mobile Phones

Mobile phone should be off and away in school; students are not permitted to use their mobile phone unless directed by a teacher in a lesson. In exceptional circumstances to contact home students should report to their pastoral team.  Phones will be confiscated if these guidelines are not adhered to.

Uniform

‘Pride in Presentation’ is a key theme this academic year. Blazers must be worn and shirts must be tucked in at all times, with top buttons fastened and tie worn to the top of the shirt.  No jeans, leggings or trainers should be worn.

Sponsored Walk

Our biennial sponsored walk will take place on Friday 28 September 2018.  This walk has been a popular event in the school calendar for over twenty years.  The aim of the day is to have a great community experience whilst raising money for both the school and our chosen charities. Please return the completed permission slip by Monday 10 September.  On an average year, we raise in excess of £8,000, so please support your child in both taking part AND collecting sponsorship. Please click for the link for further information and the permission slip.
