Rossett News Update - 6 September 2019
Welcome back to all. We extend a warm welcome to Rossett to the parents of our new Year 7 students. We hope you enjoy our weekly news update which is sent to all parents every Friday afternoon and keeps you up-to-date with everything that is taking place at school and informs you of all the wonderful achievements of our students.
Congratulations to all our students celebrating A Level and GCSE results
At GCSE students' performance in English and Maths has been particularly impressive: almost 80% of the students achieved grades 9-4, almost 20% above the national average – an increase from last year’s results.
Computer Science, Biology, and Music also scored highly in securing the 9-7 measure with respectively 56%, 50% and 37% of all students achieving at the highest grades, all well above the national average.
At A Level over a quarter of all grades achieved were at A*/A, with over 75% at A*- C, and a 99% overall pass rate.
This year we had three sets of twins who achieved a fantastic 14 A/A* between the six of them; Amelia and Oliver Ashbrook, Amy and Thomas Laws and Ben and Shaun Wilson worked hard to achieve excellent results, alongside all of our other students. We are really pleased that all of our students have secured places at university, in further study elsewhere, or in their chosen professions,’ said Brendan Foley, Director of Sixth Form.
Shaun Wilson achieved A*A*AA and is going to Cambridge to study Medicine. Ben Wilson achieved A*A*AB and is going to study Engineering at Durham University where he will be joined by Amy Laws who will be studying Computer Science after achieving A*A*A. Our Head Girl, Lucy Hopkins, achieved AAB is also set to join the others at Durham where she will be reading Business and Management and Imogen Fisher achieved AAB and A* in her EPQ and has gained her place at Oxford to read History and French.
John Hesketh, Chair of Governors said, “we are extremely proud of the class of 2019 and I’d like to thank all of the staff at Rossett who have worked so hard to support our students to gain these high levels of success once again. Well done to everyone!”
The Rossett Basics
We have been impressed with the vast majority of students who have returned from the summer break wearing their uniform with pride, fully equipped for their learning and focused in their lessons. We have been speaking to the students during assembly and Form Time about the importance of being in school every day with the correct equipment, uniform and displaying behaviours which allow for a calm, positive learning environment. Thank you for your support in ensuring this. For the minority of students who still have not met these expectations we will be making contact with their parents/carers so we can work together to achieve consistency across all year groups. Please check the school website to make sure that your child is meeting the expectations we have set out for them. Ensuring all students are adhering to school expectations will continue to be one of our main priorities.
Building improvement
Two brand-new Art rooms are now open and offer wonderful large, bright spaces for our artists. Two existing Food Technology rooms have moved into the space vacated by the old art rooms and feature new ovens and cabinetry and bring our Technology and Art departments together in a dedicated area. A number of old doors and lighting have been replaced across the school site, further enhancing the space for our students.
