Rossett News Update - 30 November 2018

Presentation Evening

Last night we celebrated the success of last year's Year 11 students at our annual Presentation Evening.  Our guest speaker, Professor Ben Jones, presented awards and trophies to our subject and special award winners. Professor Jones is a Senior Lecturer at Leeds Beckett University and spoke about his own learning journey from failing his A levels to being one of the youngest professors on the staff.  He has worked with national rugby sides and locally-based Leeds Rhinos and Leeds Utd in looking at how to achieve 'marginal gains' in professional sport.

Our Year 12 musicians performed an Abba medley and Head Boy (James Porter) and Head Girl (Lucy Hopkins) closed the evening's celebrations.

Year 11 Sixth Form 'Taster' Day

Today Year 11 students took part in our Sixth Form 'Taster' Day where they had the opportunity to sample life in the Sixth Form at Rossett School.  During this busy and informative day the students attended 'taster' lessons from a range of thirty subjects, wore business dress  and had the opportunity to dine in our Sixth Form cafe.

A final reminder from us that the Sixth Form Information Evening for Year 11 students and parents will be held on Thursday 6 December commencing at 7.00pm with a presentation from the Headteacher in the main hall.  This is a very important evening as the Subject Fair - which takes place in the Sixth Form Centre - will provide detailed information about the courses and enrichment opportunities on offer.  Sixth Form Ambassadors will be available during the evening and parents and students are encouraged to speak to them about their experience at Rossett.

Mock Examinations

Our Year 11 students will be completing mock GCSE examinations across all subjects next week.  Students will sit examinations in Science, Maths, English, Geography, History, French and Spanish in the Sports Hall;  option subject examinations will be held in classrooms during normal lesson times.  The mock examinations will be sat under exam conditions,  in readiness for the terminal GCSE examinations, next summer.

Co-curricular Opportunities

Further to the introduction of our new and improved co-curricular offer in last week’s newsletter, we will be reporting on a 'Club of the Week' each Friday. We will  showcase a variety of clubs from across the school, providing key information and also up and coming events. Please look out for this information in the coming weeks!  Please click the link  for further information about our Clubs and Activities.

Christmas baubleRossett PTA and Rossett Sixth Form students are organising a Year 7 Christmas Disco on Thursday 13 December 2018 in the main school hall.  The event provides Year 7 students with a fun and entertaining evening at the end of a busy term.  Tickets for the event are £5.00 which includes a hotdog  (including meat or vegetarian alternative). Members of the PTA, Sixth Form students and teachers, will be present throughout the evening to supervise and to organise the entertainment. We have also secured 'DJ Dent', a former student, who will provide the music. This event has been successfully organised for the last six years and is an opportunity for the students to socialise with their peers and have fun.  The disco will run from 7.00pm - 8.30pm and there will be a tuck shop supplying sweets, drinks and novelty items in the blue dining hall; students are advised to bring a small amount of money - preferably no more than £5.  Further informationon the event can be found  by clicking the link Year 7 Disco 2018.
