Rossett News Update - 27 September 2019

UCI World Championships

We would like to express our thanks to all students and their parents for their patience and understanding this week.  Whilst the UCI cycling event has been a wonderful spectacle, we appreciate that it has presented challenges in relation to the journey to and from school.  We hope you are able to enjoy the rest of the event over the weekend and look forward to returning to our usual timings for buses and school activities next week.  After school clubs and late buses will resume on Monday 30 September.

SMHWExercise Books and SMHW (Show my Homework)

For all parents/carers Years 7-13

Mr Stone (Deputy Headteacher)  has attached a very important letter here clarifying access arrangements for all parents to our SMHW (Show my Homework) site.  This is not the first year that we have used this system for students to be able to look at the homework set by individual classroom teachers, but it is a useful resource for parents to see the full task, the due date and to be able to consequently support their child at home.

Logging on is a simple process and all parents will receive an email with their personalised login details.  Please read the letter carefully for full instructions and an indication of the IT support available if you find it difficult to access this site.

There is also further clarification regarding exercise books coming home in the same letter.

Cake Bake portraitCake Bake for Macmillan Cancer Care

Our Sixth Form students  led by our new team of Charity Prefects, once again organised an excellent fund-raising event on Wednesday, this year ably supported by our new Year 7 students.  Together they raised over £390 for Macmillan Cancer Care - thank you to everyone who made cakes and supported the event.

European Day of Languages

The European Day of Languages was a huge success with everyone in school with our Executive Chef providing edible delicacies including a tapas bar. Students played Pétanque and handball in PE; completed a passport challenge; and made educated guesses as to which teacher was speaking a foreign language in our big competition.  All students discussed the value of languages in their PSHE lesson and were able to sample European food in the dining halls at lunchtime.

Open day poster 2019Open Day and Open Evening for Parents

Rossett will be welcoming the parents of Year 5 and 6 pupils to listen to a presentation from the Headteacher about all that Rossett has to offer.  This will take place on Thursday 3 October (6.30pm-8.30pm).  Parents will have the opportunity to visit the Learning Resource Centre to speak to faculties about the curriculum we offer as well as find out about admissions, transport and much more.

This is followed by our Open Day on Saturday 5 October (9.30am-12 noon) when parents and children are invited to meet our students and teachers and see the school in action.  A number of exciting activities take place throughout the morning.  There are other 'open' opportunities available to see the school at work.  Further details of how to book a visit are available at each of these events.

Bewerley Park

We are delighted to be able to offer Year 7 students the opportunity to attend an outdoor pursuit course at Bewerley Park Outdoor Centre in the Yorkshire Dales between 24-28 February 2020.  This will include activities such as mountain biking, ghyll scrambling, climbing, canoeing and orienteering.  This is a great opportunity for our new students to experience team-building activities and to challenge themselves with their new classmates.  Further details of the trip can be found here. We would like to remind you that the deadline for deposit payments is Friday 4 October.

American flagAmerican Exchange Parents' Information Evening

For over 30 years, Rossett School has maintained a strong relationship with Falmouth School in Maine.  We 'exchange' students every other year and look at learning American-style.  We alternate this trip each year with our visits to our partner school in Japan.

We would like to remind you that on Wednesday 2 October there will be an information evening for parents (of students who are already signed-up to this years exchange) to provide more detailed information about the American Exchange trip which departs on 19 October 2019.  The meeting with start at 6.30pm in the Main Hall.

Continue to live in the UK after it leaves the EU - information for Parents and Students

The UK government has reached an agreement with the EU that will protect the rights of EU citizens and their family members living in the UK. It has also reached an agreement with Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein, and a separate agreement with Switzerland.

These agreements mean that most citizens from the EU, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Switzerland will need to apply to stay in the UK. They can then continue living their lives here as they do now.
