Rossett News Update - 20 September 2019

UCI Welcome the worldUCI World Cycling Championships

You will have received a letter yesterday providing further details of the UCI cycling event which is taking place in Harrogate next week - please find a copy here for reference.  During the week of the UCI event we do expect all students to be in school.  As I hope you appreciate, the school and NYCC have made reasonable adjustments to enable buses to run as efficiently as possible during this period. Please ensure you plan your child's journey to and from school to allow them to attend.

Reminder:  There will be NO after school clubs and consequently NO late buses running next week.

Our School our wayOur School Our Way

On Saturday 14 September Rossett opened it's doors to over 100 primary school pupils from years 5 and 6 to take part in a fun-filled event packed with exciting learning activities and team building games.

Students worked in teams to design their own school uniforms and then took to the cat-walk to present their imaginative designs  to their parents - whilst the rest of the students performed 'Roar' by Katy Perry in a massed choir.

Students were also challenged to design their own school  demonstrating some wonderfully creative ideas. They worked collaboratively to build their masterpieces and showed the talent of the next generation coming to Rossett.  Thank you to all who took part and  to everyone who organised the event.

Joe Cooper Tewitt BandTewit Band Success

Congratulations to Rossett Year 11 student, Joe Cooper who competed with Tewit Silver Band at the National Brass Band Finals  in Cheltenham last Saturday.  The band had already won the Regional Championships in March 2019 which enabled them to take part in this event.

Their hard work, commitment and determination paid off last weekend when the band became  4th Section National Champions. Joe is an amazing  ambassador for both the band and Rossett School.  Competing  with Joe was Owen James, one of our peripatetic music teachers here at Rossett.

Cornet player Joe has performed the Last Post at our Armistice Day commemorations and taken part in musical performances since joining Rossett School in Year 7. We are very proud of his success.

European day of languagesEuropean Day of Languages 2019

We are looking forward to our European Day of Languages on Wednesday 25 September and many exciting events are taking place:

  • Year 7: Tapas Bar during period 2 in the Year 7 Dining Hall
  • Year 8: Languages and 'future employment' assembly and challenging class activities
  • Year 7 and Year 8: Passport Challenge
  • All years:  Value of languages PSHE session; "guess the teacher speaking a Foreign Language" competition; Pétanque (the French version of bowls) and Handball taster sessions in PE throughout the day.

We look forward to showing you some pictures of these celebrations and challenging activities in next week's Rossett News.

Ofsted Parents' Information Evening

We are holding a Parents’ Meeting on Thursday 26 September at 6.30pm to outline the School and Governors’ response to our recent Ofsted report.  This meeting is being held in the Main Hall and is open to Parents/Carers of students at the school.  There are 250 places available. If you would like to attend please click the link to register:

Meet the PTA

Rossett School PTA is a small but active group supporting the school at key events.  During the last academic year over £1,500 was raised for a number of valuable school resources.

The PTA is holding an informal meeting in Meeting Room 3 (in Reception) on Thursday 26 September following the Ofsted Parents' Information Evening.  They would like to invite anyone to drop in and meet the team and see what they do.  Everyone is welcome.

Macmillan logoMacmillan Coffee Morning

On Wednesday 25 September our Sixth Form students are hosting a cake sale in DW4 at break time in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.  If your child would like to bring a small amount of money to purchase a cake on the day and so donate to this wonderful cause our Sixth Form students would be pleased to see them.  Some marvelous students, staff and parents are donating home-made (and secretly, shop-bought!) cakes.  All donations of cakes, biscuits, tray-bakes etc. will be gratefully received on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday morning at Student Reception.

Collecting/dropping off children

We would like to remind all parents to park/wait with consideration for others when collecting their children from the Sports' Centre car park.  It has become evident that a small minority of parents wait in line instead of parking in available spaces, causing considerable inconvenience for others - please park/wait in the designated parking bays only. We thank you in advance for your support.

Co-curricular 'Club of the Week'

Each week we are highlighting a 'club of the week' from our co-curricular activities offer at Rossett.  This week it is the Year 7 boys' football group, who meet after school every Friday.  This new group trained for the first time last week to  develop their skills and our football expert Mr O’Sullivan was very impressed by their all-round enthusiasm for the game.  If you would like to join this team then please contact Mr O’Sullivan in the PE Office, all abilities and levels of experience are welcome.
