Rossett News Update - 11 October 2019

Apprenticeship Show

On Wednesday 9 October over 55 Rossett students from Years 10 and 11 visited the National Apprenticeship show at The Yorkshire Showground. Students had the opportunity to visit providers, speak to future apprenticeship organisers and to ask questions about entry requirements, course content and future employment opportunities.

Students  had the opportunity to test their physical fitness on a virtual reality assault course then used the 'test your reaction time' game, and finally tested how quickly they could set a dinner table.

Running groupWorld Mental Health Day

On Thursday Rossett Sixth Form students were visited by Ben Dave and Marcus Chapman who are CALM Ambassadors and talked about the benefits of physical activity to promote mental well-being.  Over 60 students ran 3k around the Rossett area while other students took part in a range of other activities to promote healthy minds.  Ben talked about his inspirational run around Yorkshire (a full 500 mile lap of the county!) in which he raised £20,000 for men's well-being charity.

If you would like to join in with their purposeful activity,  Ben and Marcus organise an 'Early Bird Running Crew' at either 6am or 6.30am - they meet at the Harrogate Cenotaph each week-day morning and welcome all abilities to exercise their way to good mental health.

At Rossett, we look forward to expanding on our activities in the future with plans for a Sixth Form running club - watch this space for more information!

PTA Request for Help...

The PTA will be providing refreshments for the September Surprise Concert and are looking for people to come along and help out  - nothing complicated, just helping to serve drinks if you can spare some time. During the September Surprise the PTA will also provide drinks for students involved in the evening. We are currently investigating the use of ‘Compostable Cups’ in which to serve these drinks in order to support our eco-student group in their on-going campaign of ‘Climate Change Awareness’

The PTA can be contacted via Facebook : rossettschoolpta , Twitter : @RossettPTA , email : info@rossettpta.co.uk

restart a heart'Restart a Heart Day' - Wednesday 16 October

To recognise the national initiative 'Restart a Heart Day', Ms Rogers, our First Aid & Health Manager, and our wider First Aid team will be teaching Year 7s' hands-only' CPR.  Throughout the day each Year 7 Form Group will have the opportunity to learn this valuable life-skill.  There will also be resuscitation demonstrations in the main hall practised to a song that provides the correct beat for effective CPR; this method of teaching allows children especially to work out the rhythm necessary for effective life-saving.  A British Heart Foundation video clip will also be shown at Form Time and students will discuss the importance of helping others and how emergency first aid can save lives.

download (7)Co-Curricular Club of the Week

Our club of the week this week is Rossett Eco Club, which meets every Thursday after school in Lab 6 with Mr Eaton -  students from all year groups are welcome. The aim of the club is to improve the sustainability of our practice as a school, giving students the opportunity to discuss the environmental issues  and, whilst doing so, to work towards the nationally recognised 'Eco-Schools Green Flag Award'. The club has been successful so far in being awarded a Bronze Award from the scheme they are now looking to achieve at least the silver award this year. If your child is interested in the environment, particularly in light of the coverage of younger campaigners such as Greta Thunberg, then please encourage them to come along.

The new Co-Curricular timetable for all clubs and activities offered either at lunchtime or after school, can be found on our website here.
