Rossett News Update – 14 September 2018

Rossett Basics

All students have now been reminded of expectations in school regarding uniform and mobile phones through Year group ‘Rossett Basics’ assemblies.  We would encourage you to remind your child of these expectations to maximise their academic and social development.

Sponsored WalkRossett-R

Our biennial sponsored walk will take place on Friday 28 September 2018.  This walk has been a popular event in the school calendar for over twenty years.  The aim of the day is to have a great community experience whilst raising money for both the school and our chosen charities. Please return the completed permission slip by Monday 10 September.  On an average year, we raise in excess of £8,000, so please support your child in both taking part AND collecting sponsorship. Please click for the link further information and the permission slip.

Student Council

Assemblies will be held next week to encourage students to apply for the 2018-2019 Student Council. This is a great way for your child to contribute to school and the wider community.  Our Student Council consists of two elected members from each year group; the Head Boy and Girl represent the Sixth Form. The application window is between Monday 17 September – Monday 24 September and application forms can be collected from Student Reception and from Form Tutors. All application forms need to be returned to Form Tutors by 9am on Monday 24 September.  Please encourage your child to get involved - further information about the Student Council is available on our website insert link.

Sports’ Presentation Evening

Our Sports Presentation Evening is being held on Thursday 27 September between 6-8pm in the Main Hall.  Last year we introduced our lower and upper school colours for our sports students in recognition of their commitment and dedication to sport at Rossett School. These badges will be presented on the evening along with awards for ‘players of the year’ and ‘most improved players’. Simon Weaver, Harrogate Town’s Manager will be speaking at the event. Tickets cost £2 are available from the Finance Office.

Our School our Way

We are delighted that ‘Our School Our Way’ is fully-booked and we look forward to welcoming pupils in Years 5 and 6 to this fun-packed event on Saturday 22 September.

Oxbridge Workshop

Six Year 13 students will attend an Oxbridge Workshop on Wednesday 17 September in the new Learning Resource Centre. This workshop will focus on the application process and particularly the interview techniques necessary to succeed. It will be led by staff and students from Brasenose College at Oxford University.

Parking

Whilst we appreciate that parking before and after school can sometimes be difficult, we would be grateful if parents coming to school at these times would be considerate to residents when dropping-off and collecting children.  Congestion at the bottom of Hartley Road is of particular concern; the road can occasionally be blocked at these times. Thank you for your support.
