Rossett News Update - 29 Nov 2024
Presentation Evening
Last night we celebrated the successes of last year's Year 11 students at our presentation evening.
Thank you to all our families who joined us on the night and to our guest speaker, Richard Sheriff, CEO of the Red Kite Learning Trust.
We couldn't be more proud of our students.

- Maple syrup glazed ham loin, Xmas chutney, bread sauce, gravy
- Everyone's favourite Brussel sprouts with cranberries
- Wensleydale rarebit mushrooms stuffed with red onion and wild mushrooms, pesto dressing

Heart of the Community Campaign
On Thursday 12th December, we are kicking off our Heart of the Community campaign with a cake stall at morning break and will also be running a Christmas raffle in the run up to the festive season.
We are raising funds to purchase a defibrillator and two outdoor cabinets to hold defibrillators and bleeding control kits (also known as bleed boxes) for our community. These essential items will provide life-saving assistance in emergencies, particularly in cases of severe or catastrophic haemorrhaging.
By providing 24/7 access to these resources, we aim to empower the local community to respond effectively to life-threatening situations. We aim to cover both sides of our school site (the main front of school gate and the sports hall car park area), where many teams play after school and on weekends.
We would also like to contribute to the training of first aid with some free to access courses as part of our community education. These free public awareness sessions will support the community to feel confident in using the contents of our cabinets and can be booked through Rossett Adult Education (for ages 12 and above).
Any additional funds will be used to purchase more lifesaving first aid training equipment, including resuscitation dolls, for use by Rossett School students and Rossett Adult Education, towards the maintenance and upkeep of the defibrillator cabinets and contents, and towards the Yorkshire Ambulance Service Charity's Restart a Heart campaign and St John Ambulance.
We hope to become the first school to achieve a Yorkshire Ambulance Service Heart of the Community GOLD Award so please show your support by donating cakes (nearer the time), and raffle prizes such as sweets, biscuits, toiletries, or anything that you would like to win yourself!

Invacuation Procedures
We will be carrying out our invacuation procedures across school before the end of this term, to test our ability to respond effectively whilst maintaining the safety and wellbeing of students and staff. The procedure will be discussed in assemblies and may provoke a response at home.
Please could parents and carers reassure your children as this may cause some stress, but be assured that staff will be carrying this out in a measured and methodical way.

Yorkshire to Ukraine
Please keep those donations coming for the Yorkshire to Ukraine appeal - anything that you would find useful if you were evacuated from your home to a place of safety.
Food, blankets, bedding, clothing, shoes, cleaning products, baby items, candles, camping equipment, sleeping bags, sanitary or washing products and toys. These should be in a condition that you would be happy to use, or give to your children. Thank you to everyone who has donated so far!

Tickets for our annual Winter Warmer Christmas Concert on Thursday 12th December go on sale today!
There will be Christmas tunes on the programme and seasonal snacks on the menu. This year we will also be inviting local primary school children to come along during the day for a sneak preview.

Careers Bulletin
This week, the Rossett Careers Team has run assemblies for all year groups to encourage them to think about what they might like to do in the future, and how they can start to explore the opportunities available.
For Years 10 and 12, we have had a particular focus on Work Experience and the importance of starting to look for possible placements now in order to get the most out of the opportunity. We have encouraged students to think broadly about where they might like to work and the skills they might like to develop. If anyone is struggling to find a placement, they can email Emmi Wainwright, our Work Experience Coordinator and Careers Adviser, at wainwrighte@rs.rklt.co.uk.
It is never too early for students to think about Work Experience, and the attached document helps them to think about where they could look for placements. Click here to find out more.
