Rossett News Update - 24 September 2021
Open Day and Open Evening for Parents
We are delighted to invite parents/carers and children in Years 5 and 6 to our Open Day on Saturday 2 October (9.30am-12 noon) where they will be able to meet our students and teachers and see the school in action. A number of exciting activities take place throughout the morning. There are other 'open' opportunities available to see the school at work. Further details of how to book a timed visit are available at each of these events.
If you are unable to attend this event we invite you to our Information Evening where you will be able to listen to a presentation from the Headteacher about all that Rossett has to offer. This will take place on Thursday 30 September (6.30pm-8.30pm). Parents will also have the opportunity to visit a Subject Fair in our Learning Resource Centre and speak to faculties about the curriculum we offer as well as find out about admissions, transport and much more.
In line with current government guidance on COVID-19 you are welcome to wear a face mask during your visit and hand sanitiser stations are available throughout the school. If you are displaying any of the signs of COVID-19 please do not attend these events.
Welcome to our New Year 7 Students
We have been very impressed with the way that our new Year 7 students have approached the first three weeks of school. They are wearing their uniforms with pride, are engaged and enthusiastic in all of their lessons and they are embracing the wider opportunities on offer, here at Rossett. The PE department were delighted to welcome a large number of Year 7 students to the after school clubs that started this week and we are looking forward to offering further extra-curricular opportunities as the term progresses.
In our assembly this morning, we celebrated the positive achievement points earnt by students to date - just short of 6000 points! An incredible achievement and testament to the hard work, focus and responsibility shown so far.
Students were also informed that iPad’s will be distributed in their IT lessons, starting from Monday and will be completed over the next two weeks. If parents/carers have opted to provide their own device, students should bring this to their next timetabled IT lesson.
Year 7 Settling In Evening, Thursday 7 October: 5.00pm - 7.30pm
Further to the excellent start our Year 7 students have made we invite parents/carers to our Year 7 Settling In Evening on Thursday 7 October between 5.00pm and 7.30pm. The purpose of the evening is for parents/carers to receive specific feedback from their child's Form Tutor as to how they are settling-in. Parents/carers will receive a letter next week with details of how to book their appointments at school.
European Day of Languages
Next Wednesday is our European Day of Languages and at Rossett we are celebrating all things European throughout the whole week. Our Executive Chef has created a European-themed menu for each day; form time activities will be linked to the importance of language studies; and there will be many other fun activities taking place in all faculties. We look forward to sharing photos of these events in next week's Rossett News.

School Calendar Update
Following the government announcement of an additional bank holiday on 3 June 2022 (during half term) to celebrate the Queen’s 70 year reign, North Yorkshire County Council have issued an amended school calendar. The summer holidays now start on Tuesday 26 July and the training day that was originally planned for this date has moved to 6 December 2021 and students will not be in school on this day.
Continuation of Lateral Flow Testing for students and staff
We continue to request that all students test on Sunday and Wednesday evenings and report the results – whether positive, negative or void – to NHS Test and Trace via the self-report option at https://www.gov.uk/report-covid19-result and also inform the school at: https://rossett.school/studentcovidreport.
This information is helping the Government to understand the prevalence of the virus across the country.
Please note that this asymptomatic testing programme does not replace current guidance for those who develop the three Covid-19 symptoms, even if mild, which is to arrange a PCR test as soon as possible. If your child develops a high temperature, a new continuous cough or loses their sense of smell or taste or it changes they should self-isolate until they receive the results of their PCR test.
As you may be aware the self-isolation rules have changed and students no longer need to self isolate if someone in their household has symptoms or has tested positive for Covid-19 if any of the following apply:
- students are under 18 years 6 months old
- students are fully vaccinated
- students are taking part or have taken part in a Covid-19 vaccine trial
- students are not able to be vaccinated for medical reasons
In such cases, even if they do not have symptoms, students should still:
- get a PCR test
- follow advice on how to avoid catching and spreading Covid-19
- consider limiting contact with people who are at higher risk from Covid-19
