Rossett News Update - 17 January 2020

GCSE Mock Examinations and successes

Congratulations to our students in Years 12 and 13 who successfully passed their extra GCSE examinations this week!

All Year 11 students returned after their mock examinations this term to a full assembly where they received their results in an event that replicated our Summer Results' Day.  Excited students filled the hall and opened their envelopes to reveal the results of months of revision and past paper practice.

The next step for all students was a de-brief with their tutors and, in lessons, master classes on improving their results in the next term.  All students have been given, once again, the information regarding support and revision classes available for every subject in the build-up to the final examination period in May 2020.  Any questions or queries about examination preparation should be through the appropriate faculty.  Further advise and support can also be sought through the pastoral team for Year 11: Miss Mooney and Mr Bainbridge.

Teaching and Learning: Post-Ofsted Presentation Evening

There will be a formal opportunity for parents to attend a post-Ofsted Parents' Information Evening on the 5th February 2020.  This event will be held in the Main Hall at 6.30pm.  The evening will give parents the opportunity to gain an insight into the work of the school in response to the post-Ofsted agenda.  Instructions on how to register for attendance at this event can be found below:

Year 7 Fundraising for Lepra

During PSHE on Wednesday, students in Year 7 participated in a variety of activities to support their fundraising efforts for the charity Lepra.

The activities ranged from making cloth teddy bears, cards and bookmarks to a bake sale. A large proportion of the year group also took part in a football tournament, which was supported by students in Year 12. The year group raised just over £100 which will be in addition to the individual fundraising of each student.

As a reminder, all students will be taking part in a Zumba workout on Wednesday 22 January during PSHE , when they must also return their fundraising envelopes which will be collected by Lepra.

Employment opportunities at Rossett School

We are looking for additional examination invigilators to join our team for the external examinations this summer (between May and July 2020).  Training will be given.  Exams commence at 9.30am and 1.15pm each day and invigilators are expected to attend 15 minutes prior to the start of each examination.  Invigilators may occasionally be asked to report earlier to help with the setting up of our larger examinations.

We are also looking to appoint a Learning Manager and a Science Technician.  Further details of these positions are available on our website here.

Internships and non-teaching positions

If you know a school leaver, under-graduate or graduate living locally who is  interested in working in a school, please encourage them to submit a letter of interest and a CV to our HR Department. We have short and long-term positions available each year and are keen to invest in local appointments to the school.  Many people who have come to work at Rossett over the years have grown within the institution; accessed high-quality training and gone on to promoted positions.  Two of our most recent success stories have included someone who started as a pastoral assistant and is now a fully qualified teacher with extra responsibility (having been sponsored by the school); and a volunteer who became a TA and is now training as an HLTA.  Letters of interest and CVs should be sent to recruitment@rossettschool.co.uk
