Marking Policy

All Years

  • Work is to be marked with the main focus being the recognition of standards met in line with students’ target grades and suggested feedback in order to improve
  • The marking of students work is to comply with the schools Assessment for Learning (AfL) commitment to improve all aspects of students learning
  • We believe here at Rossett that to assist students in their learning a comment which sets a target to improve is the most beneficial way to give effective feedback.
  • There will be occasions when simply a grade or a mark is given, but this is given in its own right and not accompanied by any comments.
  • Therefore, depending on the nature of the work set, staff can either:

    i. Accompany the piece of work with suggested feedback comment to improve. This can form the target which the students can record in their planner during the AfL quality feedback window

    or

ii. If the students have completed a test simply give a grade/mark – nothing else is necessary

  • The AfL quality feedback window runs up until the end of each learning cycle.
  • At any point during the window students are expected either to record at least one of the written comments for improvement into their planners, or another appropriate target or piece of feedback given to them by their subject teacher.
