Rossett News - 4 October 2018

Rossett welcomed the parents of Year 6 pupils to listen to a presentation from the Headteacher about the school and our educational philosophy last night. Parents also had an opportunity to visit our new Learning Resource Centre to speak to faculties about the curriculum as well as find out about admissions, transport and much more.

This is followed by our Open Day on Saturday 6 October (9.30-12noon); parents and children are invited to meet our students and teachers and see the school in action. A number of exciting activities take place throughout the morning and you will have a chance to see and speak to our specialist teams of SEND and pastoral staff.

Parent Governor Election

As part of our continual review of the skill-set in our Governing Body we are always looking to hear from parents who may have a background in education, governance, law or similar who would like to contribute to the future development of the school.

Anyone who would like to express a general interest in governance is more than welcome to contact the Headteacher’s PA, Mrs D Duncan, at the school for further information. Dduncan@rossettschool.co.uk.

We are looking specifically for at least two parents who would be prepared to put their names forward in our latest recruitment drive for parent governors.  This is a formal process that is being advertised in a number of different ways – through our events for prospective parents and at our Year 7 Settling in Evening (Thursday 11 October).

Nomination forms are available from the link xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx and should be returned by Wednesday 14 November.  The elections will take place prior to the Full Governing Body meeting on Tuesday 4 December.

Sponsored Walk

Thank you to everyone who was involved in our very successful Sponsored Walk last Friday – we hope you enjoyed looking at the pictures and video of the day.  Please encourage your child to collect their sponsorship money and return it to their From Tutor as soon as possible so that it can be put to good use by our nominated charities; Water Aid, MIND and Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

September Surprise 2September Surprise – Thursday 18 October, 6.30pm

We are delighted to invite you to our September Surprise Concert which takes place on Thursday 18 October (that’s the surprise!) at 6.30pm in the Main Hall.  During the first few weeks at school, Year 7 are busy in their music lessons learning a selection of songs to perform at this event – it promises to be a great evening!  Tickets are available from the Finance Office at just £3 per ticket click the link for more information and order form.

Year 11 transition to Sixth Form

At Rossett we recognise that the transition from Year 11 to Sixth Form is an important step for our students and we offer a comprehensive programme to support them as they move through to the next exciting stage of their education:

‘Re-start a Heart’ Day –  Tuesday 16 October

To recognise the national initiative ‘Re-start a Heart Day’, Ms Rogers, our First Aid & Health Manager, and the First Aid team will teach Year 7s hands-only CPR; Dr ABC (to remember the steps: Danger, Response, Airway, Breathing and Circulation); and will also demonstrate how a defibrillator works.
During lunchtime there will be resuscitation demonstrations in the main hall to songs that are the correct beat for CPR.  At Form Time, all students will see the ‘mini Vinnie’ clip and Form teachers will discuss with their students the importance of helping others and how emergency first aid can save someone’s life.

Harrogate in bloomHarrogate in Bloom Award

We are delighted to have received a coveted ‘Gold’ at the recent Harrogate in Bloom Awards for our Rossett School sensory garden – we were also the overall winner in the school’s category!  Students and staff have worked incredibly hard over the past year and thoroughly deserve this recognition – well done!

 Message from the PE faculty

With the cold weather fast approaching we would like to remind parents and students that we offer a wide selection of optional additional warm clothing that can be worn in PE lessons. Please follow the link to our online shop.

Parking, drop-off and collection of students

We would like to remind you to park with consideration to our neighbours when collecting and dropping off your children.  Congestion in the locality is an increasing problem and we are concerned for the safety of our students.  Please also remember to turn off your engine whilst waiting to minimise the risk of pollution to pedestrians passing by.  Thank you for your support.

Co-curricular activities

At Rossett School we are very proud of the co-curricular activities that we offer to all.  However, we are always looking at ways to improve on what we currently do and we value parental input.

Mrs Temple, Rossett School’s Co-Curricular Coordinator, would be grateful if you could complete the survey below by Friday 12 October, which will help us further enhance our provision. Please remember that co-curricular activities are any activities that students do outside of the classroom before school/break time/lunchtime and after school. Revision sessions are not included in this.
