Rossett News Update - 11 January 2019

Welcome back and a Happy New Year to all parents and students from all staff at Rossett School.

Mock examination success

This week Years 11, 12 and 13 took part in our annual 'mock' results day - celebrating their successes and considering where they need to invest more time and effort to secure the results they wish to see in the summer.

GCSE and A Level MFL students have been sitting their mock oral examinations this week and these continue next week.

Enhancing Safety in Our School

Over the years at Rossett School we have continued to improve many aspects of safeguarding and safety for all our students and staff.  New fences and gates; limited points of access to the site; changes to parking on-site; and dedicated student and visitor receptions have all been part of this work.  The physical structure of classrooms and buildings have also been improved to provide secure accommodation.

As you will be aware, we practise drills and procedures for fire and school evacuation already and we have recently installed a new separate klaxon system to ensure that any ‘lockdown’ procedure is distinct from our fire procedures: essentially fire evacuation explains how to get everyone out safely; lockdown keeps everyone in, and threats out.

We have therefore introduced a lockdown procedure, with advice taken from North Yorkshire County Council and the guidelines from the National Counter Terrorism Security Office.  You will have received a letter by email today explaining this further;  it can also be accessed here.

University (UCAS) News

Our Sixth Form Team have been working hard with students to complete all UCAS applications and students have already begun to have offers come through.

We were delighted to hear that Imogen Fisher has received an offer to study History and French at Oxford University.  Imogen worked hard on her application and we are extremely proud of her achievement.  Our congratulations also go to all the other Sixth Form students who have already received offers for their chosen universities.

Staffing

I would like to welcome the following staff to Rossett:

Mrs L Graham - Teacher of Mathematics

Mr R Keyworth - Lead Teacher: Business Studies and Economics (BTEC Development)

Safety:  Important information relating to Art drawing sets

Art setWe are delighted to learn that a number of students have received Art drawing sets for Christmas.  However, it has come to light that some sets, such as the 'Cooja roll-up, sketching pencil set' (commercially available online) contain mini-craft knives.  Please note that these knives must not be brought into school.  I would like to thank you for your support in looking at your child's equipment for school and checking that no knives are present. Thank you.

Refurbishment of student bike area

Over the next few months the school will be improving the area in which students store their bikes.  This will commence with the removal of the old building however,  the old bike stand will remain in situ during the process and students should secure their bikes to these.  A new bike shelter will be installed towards the end of the summer term.

Congratulations to...

  • the Year 10 Boys' Football Team who have progressed to the next round of the National Cup by winning 2-0  against St Aidan's.  The boys' have also reached the last eight contenders in the County Cup with a very confident 12-1 against Risedale.
