National piano success

On Saturday 6 April, Rossett student Alannah Saphir (Year 8), will travel to London to perform in the final of the EPTA (European Piano Teachers Association) UK Piano Competition, which is being held at the Royal Academy.  The first round of this prestigious competition was held in York in January; Alannah was one of two performers in her category who qualified to perform at  the regional finals. This stage was held at Chethams School of Music in Manchester last weekend - Alannah 's performance was exceptional, winning her category. This resulted in a trip to London to compete against two other finalists  -  the winners of the London and Birmingham regional rounds.  We, at Rossett, are incredibly proud of this achievement and we wish Alannah the very best of luck.

Purple Book Bus Visit

Thanks to the generosity of the PTA we started the week with a visit from the Purple Book Bus, a mobile bookshop. Students who have shown enthusiasm for reading were invited on board and all had fun choosing a variety of books for the Learning Resource Centre that students will be able to borrow and enjoy. The PTA have kindly offered to fund the purchase of the chosen books with proceeds from the various events they have run this year. When the books are delivered in the next few weeks everyone will be invited to come and borrow the book they chose, and we will place a book plate in the front to show that it was chosen by students and generously gifted to school by the PTA.

Comic Book Workshop

On Wednesday Regie from Destination Venus, Harrogate’s Comic Book Store came to talk to students from all years about the DC 'Be a Hero' campaign -  and the 'Thought Bubble' conference that is taking place in Harrogate in November. Hearing about successful comic book creators from all sorts of backgrounds encouraged our students to have a go themselves and they came up with some great characters and ideas.

Book Ambassadors

We are lucky to have some very enthusiastic readers at Rossett who are happy to share their recommendations with other students by volunteering as Book Ambassadors. Our team from Year 8 are on duty at break and lunch to help anyone who wants a good book to read. They all read a wide variety of genres and we hope their recommendations will encourage others to share their love of reading.

Rossett Student is Youngest London Marathon Entrant 2019

Katie Ridley marathon picKatie Ridley (Year 12) has been in training since October for the London Marathon, which takes place on Sunday 28 April.  Katie was recently contacted by the event organisers to let her know that she is the youngest entrant in this year's event!  Katie is fundraising for MIND and Saint Michael's Hospice and has nearly reached her £1,000 target.  To support her fundraising Katie and her Sixth Form friends hosted a bake sale this week raising £180 towards her total.  If you would like to support Katie follow the link to her fundraising page https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/KatieRidley3
