Rossett News Update – 27 April 2018
Head Boy and Head Girl
The Sixth Form Hustings took place this week and after a very close race, we are pleased to announce the results are as follows:
Head Boy: James Porter Head Girl: Lucy Hopkins
Deputy Head boy: Shaun Wilson Deputy Head Girl: Kerry Holtham
We were proud of all who took part in the process – a fantastic group of candidates for the position. Our democratically elected leaders will be impressive ambassadors for Rossett.
Back to basics
Last week Mr Royles led re-set assemblies for all students. These assemblies focussed on the ‘Rossett Basics’ (uniform, equipment and punctuality); adherence to these help to make our school such a success. Students were reminded of expectations for uniform, conduct in classrooms and positive relationships with peers and adults.
We will be focussing on different elements of the Rossett Basics throughout the summer term and would appreciate your support as parents.
Revision and preparation is well underway for our students as the external examinations commence on 14 May 2018.
I would like to take this opportunity to remind parents of the following information:
- Students should arrive at school in full school uniform.
- Mobile phones or any electronic device that can connect to the internet should not be brought into the exam even if it is turned off.
- Possession of an unauthorised item is a serious offence and could result in disqualification from the examination and the overall qualification.
- Morning exams start at 9:30am and afternoon exams start at 1:15pm.
- Students are allowed to bring water, in a clear plastic bottle – the label must be removed.
- No food is allowed in the examination room.
- Calculators – if they are allowed – must be cleared of any stored data in the memory. All covers must be removed and placed on the floor.
- Pencil cases should be clear plastic and black pens should be used.
As in previous years the whole school will move to early lunch (12.25-1.10pm) from 14 May 2018 except on 25 May when the whole school will move to late lunch (1.25-2.10pm).
You are warmly invited to the annual Art & Design Technology Exhibition on Thursday 10 May, 5pm-7pm in the Art and Design Technology Departments. Please feel free to come and celebrate the fantastic work that the GCSE and A Level students have completed.
News from First Aid
The Year 9 vocational study group and the school first aid team have been given an awareness session on the IPad automated external defibrillator (AED). The iPad AED is the most popular community defibrillator in use in our area and the model that was bought with the money raised from Rossett’s sponsored resuscitation event last October.
Ms Rogers has been working with the Starbeck community to buy a ‘trainer AED’ to promote community education in the pre-hospital care of any cardiac arrest patient.
The sessions have been given a very enthusiastic welcome by all the students and have enhanced the first aid training given in school.
Your school needs you!
Support required for our Parent and Teachers’ Association (PTA)
The Rossett School PTA always needs members or helpers to organise and run fundraising events for the school. The Chair, Deputy Chair, Treasurer and Secretary roles will become vacant at the AGM meeting on 19 June 2018 as the current post holders will be stepping down. We urgently need willing volunteers to step forward to ensure that the PTA can continue to raise funds to support your son/daughter’s education and experiences here at Rossett.
If our PTA can recruit sufficient new members at the next AGM on Tuesday 19 June 2018, it can sustain its core operation in terms of supporting the school.
The PTA is a great supporter of Rossett School. Over the years the PTA has helped raise substantial funds which have been used to assist the school purchase a wide range of equipment, all of which have been of enormous assistance to our students in not only their education but in supporting their interests and activities in addition to their studies.
Helping the PTA need not be a difficult or time-consuming job. The committee generally meet for just a few hours once per term to discuss and plan events. If you can volunteer perhaps just a few hours per year to help run events, your help will be invaluable.
If you feel that you can support the PTA and would like to get involved please contact Mrs Daly, Associate Assistant Headteacher at firstname.lastname@example.org or contact Reception on 01423 564444. A member of the current PTA committee will then get in touch with you and provide you with more information about becoming a member or helper of the PTA.
