This week Year 12 and 13 welcomed Beverley Le Brocq from the Alzheimer’s Society, to further their understanding of dementia and to address misconceptions around the disease. Students were given the opportunity to join the nationwide Dementia Friends campaign, which seeks to have 4 million Dementia Friends across the UK by 2020.

Presentation Evening – Thursday 23 November 2017

Year 7 Skate Park Project
This term Year 7s have been demonstrating excellent skills when deciding on the site for a proposed skate park in the local area. This has involved a trip out of the classroom and then writing persuasive letters to the local council. The unit of work was completed with a competition for the best model skate park. There were some amazing entries which made judging very difficult – the final three were in third place Ruby Saddler (7VFA), in second place Aayaan Ahmed (7AOY) and in a first place Ricardo James (7LWN). Congratulations to all involved.
Student Council Charities
The Student Council have voted on the charities Rossett will support for this academic year which will be:
Local: Harrogate Young Carers
Regional/National: Candlelighters (Yorkshire based children’s cancer charity)
Pathways to Law Programme
We were delighted to hear that Emily Atkinson, Emily Howell and Ollie Bennett (Year 12) have been successful in their applications to the prestigious Pathways to Law programme. The programme was developed by the Sutton Trust to inspire and support academically-able students in their pursuit of a career in Law and widen access to the legal profession.
Pathways to Law is delivered locally by Leeds University and includes a full and varied agenda of lectures, debates and moots, careers sessions, university advice and guidance plus help with presentation and presence skills. The students are also given the opportunity of work experience in a law firm. We are very proud that the students secured three of thirty five places on the programme.
Congratulations to Shaun Wilson, Ben Wilson, Matt Petty, and Oliver Hall-Walmsley – who came 15th overall in the North Yorkshire Senior Team Maths Challenge.
