Rossett News Update – 5 October 2017
Year 11 ‘Supporting Your Child’: Thursday 19 October 2017 Evening
As part of our continued commitment to helping students achieve their best possible grades at GCSE, and with the exam period fast approaching, we would like to invite all parents/carers of Year 11 students to our ‘Supporting Your Child’ event in the Sixth Form Centre on Thursday 19 October between 6-8pm.
This informal evening will offer practical advice and useful revision tips/techniques, as well as information about support material, preparing a revision plan and sourcing revision guides and past papers.
As you will be aware all students in England who fail to achieve a Level 4 or above in GCSE Maths and English have to continue studying these subjects post-16. We have therefore organised two dedicated English and Maths sessions during the evening to ensure that parents are equipped with the necessary information to guide their child to success in these two important subject areas.
Parental support is essential during this crucial period and this informative evening will offer excellent advice and guidance to enable you to help your child. If you would like to attend, please follow the link here to register to enable us to plan resources accordingly. Last year the event was very well-attended and we look forward to welcoming you on the evening.
Practice Expedition – Friday 13 October to Sunday 15 October 2017
Students are taking part in the DofE practice expedition next weekend in the North Yorkshire Dales with participants staying at How Gill Lodge near Barden and in Kettlewell and the expedition will finish at Malham Cove on Sunday.
Rossett’s Sensory Garden has won another award this week – Harrogate in Bloom – President’s Trophy. Mr Fenton, Mrs Clark, Mrs Butler and Chloe Webber were delighted to receive the award from the President, Pam Grant.
Restart a Heart Day Monday 16 October
It is just over a week away from the national Restart a Heart Day and Rossett students and First Aid staff are limbering up to take part in a six hour sponsored resuscitation. The team are raising awareness of this life saving skill and will be offering other students the opportunity to have a go. This will be a sponsored event and students are hoping to raise £1000. If we reach this target Yorkshire Ambulance Service Charitable Trust Fund will donate £900 which will provide a community defibrillator for the Harrogate area. If you would like to sponsor our First Aiders they each have sponsor forms and the event will also be placed on our online payment system – under trips (click the link for further details: http://www.rossettschool.co.uk/parents/online-payments/).
A donation box will also be available on 16 October.
At the end of September Miss Fairbairn (PE) received the CPR Hero Award which was presented by the Chairman of the British Heart Foundation. Miss Fairbairn was nominated for the award as she had successfully performed CPR on one of her students at her former school.
