Rossett News Update – 8 September 2017
Welcome back. I hope that everyone enjoyed a good break over the summer.
The beginning of a new academic year always starts with a news update on the improvements we have made to the school site and reminders of our school expectations; these will be shared with students during the first two weeks of term through formal assemblies and tutor briefings.
Many thanks to all parents for their support in the introduction of our new blazers here at Rossett. On Tuesday of this week, the new Year 7 students were the first to arrive in their smart new uniform, joined on Wednesday by Years 8, 9 and 10. The blazer remains an option for Year 11and these larger sizes are available from Rawcliffes of Harrogate. The school stocks all sizes in sample blazers for students to try on and the blazers can be ordered and delivered through our Rossett School Finance Office. Alternatively parents can place their own orders at Rawcliffes of Harrogate. All other uniform requirements can be found on our website – please click here.
The PE department have emailed all parents/carers clarifying the PE kit requirements for each lesson. Please click the link for further details.
Phase three, of three, of roofing work has almost been completed. The main school block was re-roofed during the holidays, with English and Music blocks expected to be completed by October half term. This work will make a tremendous difference to both the school’s heating bill and the historic leaks in these areas!
The access road to the front of school, leading from Green Lane, has been widened and new gates, fences and access points added both in this location and to the rear of the school (Pannal Ash Road entrance).
More details of the changes to the access to the site will follow in the next bulletin. Students have been briefed in assemblies and tutor time regarding new procedures for entry/exit to the site; what to do if they are late to school and the keyless entry system for all teaching blocks.
We are delighted to report that our new Student Reception – at the front of the school – is open for business.
This new doorway leads from the car park at the front of the school through to a dedicated reception office, just for students. Here they can sign in on the electronic register; deal with iPad loans; report for collection by parents for off-site appointments and in order to receive ‘forgotten’ lunches, PE kits and messages.
Opposite the new Student Reception is a purpose-built First Aid suite to help meet the needs of any student who feels unwell or is injured during the school day. Ms Rogers, our First Aid & Health Manager, is delighted with the facilities. She will be continuing to offer excellent care to our students from this new location, whilst continuing to provide the St. John’s Ambulance First Aid extra-curricular enhancement classes and the evening ‘Babysitting Course’. Please click here for further details of this course which commences on Tuesday 19 September.
Congratulations to all our students celebrating A Level and GCSE results.
Rossett is celebrating another year of excellent results.
The pass rate at A Level was over 99 per cent, with more than 25 per cent of the students awarded grades A* or A, and over three-quarters of all grades awarded being A*-C. Students have worked exceptionally hard to earn their grades and we look forward to hearing about their achievements in future.
The 2017 summer exam season saw students sitting the new Grade 9-1 GCSEs for the first time in Maths and English. We are delighted with the outcomes which reflect the tremendous commitment of our students to their studies. In excess of 77% of our students achieved a grade 4 and above in English and Maths. We are also delighted to report that 6% of our Year 11 Maths students were awarded the top grade (Level 9) compared to 3% nationally. Overall just under 60% of students were awarded 9-6 or A*-B – an excellent achievement.
