Rossett News Update – 30 June 2017
Congratulations to Julian Hartness (Year 8), Jack Banister (Year 9), Maddy Copper (Year 10) and Miki Burt (Year 10) who have passed their Level 1 and Level 2 Chinese Youth Tests – Miki achieved full marks! These students studied Mandarin during form time in Key Stage 3 and have shown real dedication by staying behind after school to continue their studies.
We also have some talented linguists in Year 7 who studied Mandarin at form time. They have been learning this challenging language through interactive activities and song.

At the recent governors’ meeting staff proudly showed the wide selection of sample blazers that are available as a guide to parents to help them make the right choice when ordering uniform for September.
We wish to remind parents that from September 2017 all students in Years 7-10 will be required to wear a school blazer with the Rossett logo. Students in Year 11 can choose to wear the new blazers or continue with the school tie and sweatshirt.
Students in Years 7-10 will no longer be able to wear the school sweatshirt alone, unless it is worn under a blazer.
The school is able to offer support for this transition and there are two important dates to remember:
- 10 July 2017
Deadline to apply for a £10 voucher on purchases of blazers prior to 1 September for families experiencing difficulties. Parents can apply for this support for each child currently at Rossett.
- 1 September 2017
10% discount on purchases made before the start of September 2017. Blazers are available from Rawcliffes (Harrogate) and the price with this discount prices will be:
- Chest size 28” to 33” £28.30
- Chest size 34” to 50” £30.50
Prices with the additional £10 discount voucher will be:
- Chest size 28” to 33” £18.30
- Chest size 34” to 50” £20.50
Sports Day – Thursday 6 July
The PE staff are busy organising Rossett’s Sports Day which will be held on Thursday 6 July. House assemblies have already been held and students can sign up with their PE teacher. All students are very welcome to attend Athletics Club on Thursday after school to fine tune their skills prior to the big day.
Sports Day will also be a non-uniform day with a voluntary contribution of £2. We would like students to wear house colours in support of their house competitors. All students will be taking part in some form of sporting activity during the course of the day. It is therefore important that they wear suitable sporting attire.
Rievaulx House – Red
Bolton House – Blue
Fountains House – Yellow
Kirkstall House – Green
Reminder: The Yorkshire Show
In line with the Department for Education guidance regarding authorisation of absence for students during term time; please note that absence to attend the Yorkshire show will not be authorised. Headteachers are only allowed to grant permission if there are exceptional circumstances.
The Year 13 prom was held at the Masonic Hall on Thursday; a fabulous night was had by all!
The Year 11s also enjoyed their Prom at the Cedar Court.
Thanks to everyone involved in organising and supporting both events.
